    Engaging crowd

My betrothed popped in to watch me ref a County game recently. She had to walk away because of the abuse coming from a bunch of older gentlemen. Seems I am a woman's private parts, blind, not very good, slow , biased, busy, arrogant - didn't hear a word of it myself. I would hate to hear their...

    Engaging crowd

Got 90 minutes of pearlers whilst running a line in a county cup semi final. 700 fans giving me grief, not sure why as their team were winning easily. I was being instructed on helping the ref out with decisions 70yards from me. I was also criticised for having differently branded shorts and...

Perhaps the observer forgot you had neutrals. That's all I can think. Otherwise it's advice I would ditch pronto.

    First Ever Fixture

One more peice of advice ; make sure you know where the ground is. The postcode is not always going to get you to the door- especially more rural areas. This is from bitter and embarrassing experience. Enjoy

    Corner Kick Taken With Knee

I would read the law the same way, thus it would simply be a retake. If the law said 'play the ball', different story. But it doesn't. One for the law exams I feel!

    What's up with these people?

One would hope the player you sent off never gets to lace his boots again. Utter disgrace. Fu$%^ng retards some players.

    New Ref

First of all welcome to the reffing world and all the best with the exam. Areferee is a very good place to start, some would say it can be inaccurate but for the most part it will stand you in good stead- it saw me through my 5 to 4 promotion exam.

Not looking foward to my next game

It is odd how this works, I had a bad experience with an early game on a district league. I come across some of the same players as I have worked my way through and still get very nervous when I know I will be reffing them. It is irrational, but all the same a very real feeling of dread, right...

The RA Premium & Adidas Kit

At the very least you should wear a FA Referee badge. I was picked up by an assessor this year on my assistant taking to the field without a badge- the Velcro failed and it sat pitch side following warm up. Didn't notice it at the time , but I can tell you which badge is being warn every time...

VAR trial - France v Spain

assistants won't bother putting the flags up anymore for anything but stonewallers. No one wants their decision overturned. assistants will eventually just have ball in and out of play, until hawk eye sorts that one too.

New Ref- some fairly basic tips

A tip- speak to both linos at the same time in front of the captains. No one can ever say they were told something different.

The RA Premium & Adidas Kit

You will find as you climb the slippery pole that there are traditions that defy logic or sense. Many leagues have tie ins with sponsors who then expect you to wear said sponsors manufactured kits when officiating games on said league. Part of playing the game. I have 3 full kits- a sponsor...

    Goal celebration

Players shirts are covered under law 4 apart from goal celebrations. You don't even need to stop the game to request a player to correct their equipment. They just need to leave the field of play , correct the issue and then wait to be signalled back on by yours truly

    Goal celebration

It might well be the caution for removing the shirt during a substitution was deemed delaying the restart. The law only talks about goal celebrations.

    Goal celebration

Player removes his shirt whilst he is being substituted- do you caution him then?
