    Goal keeper drop kick

It's not delaying the restart so it's different in Law. That's too subtle for most players, benches and spectators and expectation has certainly shifted where the motivation of the offender is clearly slowing the game down. What's dangerous hasn't changed, but I think I'd be looking for...

    Refereeing Decisions Explained

Saw the rerun of this yesterday evening. Overall I think it is a good development. Howard Webb comes across very well - transparent, clear in his aims and determined to make things better. Just a shame it wasn't a bit longer and they couldn't have found a more inspiring presenter than Michael...

    Guernsy

They (Guernsey FC as they fund it) were talking last season about possibly giving refs the option of staying Saturday night and flying back Sunday this season. I don't know it they have done that or not. Otherwise it is a long day - although Guernsey are great as a club and you get well looked...

    New Directives

Also at Step 1 from my weekend experience. I was pleasantly surprised at how it influenced player behaviour in turning down unnecessary intervention of physios. However, I can also see a downside looming - players who need appraisal / treatment refusing it to not let their mates down.

Instructions to Match Officials for the 2023/24 Season

I still can't get to these clips - the FA community site recognises me as a referee, but I just see a pretty much empty site. Have raised a ticket, but could be me missing a trick ? Anyway, very specific question. First step 4 game of the season this weekend, with an observer. Are we...

National League North / South Line

As James says, even more so than in the middle you need something to happen to get a big score. Last season, I would say rule of thumb was : - competent performance in a match where you had no big decisions to make - 72.5 - as above but with a MCS or something else that made you stand out...

    Technical area offences - restart?

It also feels like that may be the answer because it's the way it happens to be (badly) written, rather than because it is what someone intended.

    Technical area offences - restart?

The wording does still allow for DFK or IDFK. IMO this is probably the most poorly written section of the current LOTG. It's real wet towel over the head time reading it and good luck to any official who remembers in the heat of the moment that opposing match official is not mentioned in the...

    That's annoying

I was also confused by the first test question being numbered 4. I think they must have set up the test so that in the tool they used Q1 was FAN, Q2 your name and Q3 your role. Got those right !

    That's annoying

Just done the pre-season online LOTG test. Some tricky ones, but would have got them all right if I hadn't misread the last question. A good lesson to take forward to the season on concentrating right to the end ! Anyone else done it ?

    Replacement of FAMOA badge

I use double-sided sticky tape, rather than velcro. Works very well and I find less hassle than velcro

Why Club Marks do my head in

Not a better person, just a different coping strategy. I know if I'd looked at a few of them when they first came out, I'd have been seething for days. That does no good on any dimension. Control the controllables and all that .... Having said that, there were plenty of marks where the club...

Why Club Marks do my head in

Just been through my club marks for the year, having studiously avoided looking at them all season. Highest mark and lowest mark all season from the 2 clubs in the same game 🤣 Had one club multiple times who seem incapable of any mark other than 'expected' Same tactic next season - really...

promotion from level 4 to 3

Well done to those who made it. Commiserations to those who didn't. If you did get it, make the most of your 'free' season with less pressure. Scoring well (compared to the average) just got a whole lot harder !

promotion from level 4 to 3

Confirmation of staying at Level 3 emails are out (as expected for me in first full season), so 4-3 should be next

promotion from level 4 to 3

Feel for you mate - that's not great at all. I hope you at least got an explanation / profuse apology for the mistake.
  17. Q

    Promotion

This is good advice. If you get a call at lunch time for a match the same evening (has happened to me once) and the answer is I would have been available if I had known yesterday, but I can't get away from work early enough at such short notice, no-one is going to be surprised or upset. If...

    Promotion

Practically I wouldn't worry about that. I've had a couple of very late notice appointments, but always with a call to check availability first - and a thank you for taking them, not an expectation that I was sat with the engine running waiting for a MOAS notification. BUT, do close dates by...
  19. Q

promotion from level 4 to 3

Looking back to last year, it looks like the email with merit table position and confirmation you were at the same level for next season came out on the same day as the promotion emails. That was at level 3. As the FA has moved to club marks on MOAS for all Supply Leagues this season, I guess...

    Next Season

If you do decide to take a break, it's worth considering registering for next season anyway, just making yourself unavailable for a while and seeing how you feel. I know a couple of referees who thought they wanted to pack it in altogether, changed their mind (one after a full season off) and...
