    Referees responsibility

i guess this opens up a debate. if a player called me a f*****g c**t, i would have to send him off. however here is my line of thinking... why would a player call me a f****g c**t? what have i done to deserve that? could i have communicated better in the moments leading up to that incident...

    This weekend's game

I finally managed to take charge of a game on Saturday for the first time in 2 months. a cup game with the team in 3rd playing a team near the bottom with only one win all season. i had reffed both of the teams previously. although the game was close and even for an hour, the higher ranked...

    Referees responsibility

i think the operative word is "try". no matter how much we "try" to keep the players on the pitch (and that's avoiding either injury or dismissal), we can't prevent every possible scenario occurring. i do like the statement, although it can be interpreted in various ways depending on how you...

    Now I know

unfortunately we are referees, not moral arbiters.

    Now I know

it just sounds like an unnecessary inflammation of the situation. a caution and a stern word may have had the desired effect without creating the animosity of a "disputed" red.

Which way were you playing again?

same here, it took me a good 5 minutes to tune in to which way each team was attacking, so when giving the first throw in of the game i actually shouted "blue ball" because i couldn't work out which arm to raise!

    Now I know

i agree with Micky, i wouldn't have interpreted that phrase as offinabus. maybe a yellow card and a chat with the player/captain/manager to explain that the CAR is your assistant and therefore should be treated as you should be treated. but all down to interpretation.

    Leicester v Forest

    1. This is why the "travelling away from goal" interpretation frustrates people. Why does it matter that he was travelling sideways? If anything, that gives him a better angle to score. If he's travelling sideways along the goal line, is it an obvious goal scoring opportunity then? If the foul...

Open Age First Game and Feeling Nervous

here in south wales, clubs are also supposed to call refs to confirm the game. saying that, i can't remember the last time my game didn't get switched during the week or even on a saturday morning!

    Leicester v Forest

i love when Haywain responds to my posts, because this always results in an opportunity for debate. can you maybe elaborate on why, in your opinion, 1. isn't an obvious goalscoring opportunity?

    Leicester v Forest

Anyone seen the highlights of this? I'm not sure who the referee is, but i felt he got most of the key decisions wrong! 1. The first penalty, awarded to Forest. The Forest player is hauled down just to the left of the penalty spot and a penalty is awarded. The defender is cautioned. I can...

    Pass Back Rule

So how is crouching/crawling to head the ball circumventing the above rule?

    Whats in your kit bag?

The sheer amount of stuff that some of you guys carry actually blows my mind.

    Pass Back Rule

At the risk of labouring the point, which law is a player circumventing by this deliberate trick?
  15. R

    Pass Back Rule

Yes so for me, if he flicks it up himself and heads it back that's a deliberate trick. If he uses unconventional means to head back a ball that an opposition player has kicked, I don't see a problem.

    Pass Back Rule

My point is who are we to judge whether a player is heading the ball "legitimately"? There's nothing in the LOTG governing when and how a header should be executed...

Has anyone here played it or refereed it

i'm still playing at @Futsal in Leeds - my team is in pole position to qualify for the FA Futsal Cup which starts in March. last night's game was so frustrating against a team which set out to kick and foul our flair players throughout, earning them two yellow cards. the ref was far too weak...

    Whats in your kit bag?

just an umbrella at the moment.

    Pass Back Rule

can we just clarify this point? theoretical scenario: the ball is played in the general direction of the goalkeeper by an attacking player. the ball is bouncing, and a defender is chasing it back towards his own box. if the defender stoops/crouches/slides to head this ball to his keeper, would...
