    First game back 2017

My first game of 2017 also, resulted in seven cautions mostly arising from foul tackles and one for dissent, however also two red cards for the same team, one for SFP, player lunged in straight on, both legs were straight, studs showing, got the ball but irrelevant as also got the player leaving...

    Football boots

Just wondered what everyone wears? I assume most go for the Adidas Copa Mondials. I have a pair which are old so I've just switched to the new Nike Premiers which are blackouts. Extremely comfortable and light, can't wait to take them for a spin.

    2016/17

You need to contact Phill Nash who is the assistant referee secretary on the Combined Counties, this is Surreys Supply League, the Surrey Elite doesn't ultilse neutral assistants, I wish that did as I'm on that league but they don't. The Combined Counties use neutral assistants in division 1 and...

    2016/17

Agreed, my refereeing improved so much after being an AR, get your face known at Supply League etc so when you do make step up you are a familiar face. When climbing levels keep in regular contact with AR and referee secretaries, do favors, last minute appointments to help out and favors will be...

First and probably not the last.....

I thought mine would be off.... even phoned in the morning to double check, luckily it was on for me, no issues.... apart from three cautions, one of which in response to a players teammate being fouled, he waved an imaginary card wanting me to book the opposition player... that didn't happen...

    Yesterday's Match

I had a very similar game yesterday, two equal sides, some good football being played. I awarded two penalties, one for each side and no arguments at all. Had a laugh during the game and chat in the changing rooms with both sides, an enjoyable Sunday. REWIND 24 HOURS... 1-0 to the home side...

Open Age Apparently I'm being reported...

I once a couple of years ago at full time had a goalkeeper (losing side goalkeeper) say "My Dad works for the FA, I'm going to report you" I smiled and said crack on with that then.

    Matches

I've had three in a week, wouldn't want to do more and that was a one off too. For October I'm lined up for 9 middles and one Supply League line

2 Standard Expected, 1 Above Standard

I didn't know this. Is that across all CFA's? I've got two above standard under my belt already with 9 games out of the magic 20 quota.

    Second Level 5 Assessment

Yeah it went really well. It was a dull first half, one player was on a final warning for persistent fouling, second half starts he fouls again but play a really good advantage then go back to caution him. Assessor was happy with that, then I'm the space of 15-20 minutes ended up cautioning 5...

    Second Level 5 Assessment

I am being 'observed' tomorrow for the second time for my Level 6 to Level 5. Hoping it goes well as the first was above standard. It's on a 3G pitch with wet weather forecast tomorrow.

    New Nike Kit

My new shirt, yellow training shirt and new midlayer arrived from A&H today, the county badge is an embroided badge which is stuck on (it was slightly coming off so went over it with an iron, seems to be stuck down). Love the yellow training shirt. I'm not sure what I think of the new referee...

    Pre Season 2016/17

I've got Ashford Town (Middlesex) v Barnet FC on Saturday on the line. It should be a good game.

    Annoying Injury!

I did a pre season middle on Thursday night on a 3g pitch involving a supply league side, turned and jarred my ankle, painful at first but ran it off, Friday morning went on a stag weekend to Benidorm, most it on feet and some disco dancing, laid in sun and have burnt my feet. Now I have a sore...

refsix - the Smartwatch and Mobile app for Referees

The GOREF app is free, looks pretty much the same apart from the heat map etc and you don't need your phone as your iPhone via Bluetooth transfers data to Apple Watch and once game over you transfer all back to iPhone. I've not used mine in a game yet but appears to be well built

    And it goes wrong

Firstly, hope you're okay, that's the main thing. Fair play for ending it, repeated threats of that nature is awful. If you have not already, report it to the Police. I hope your CFA supports you fully and the book is thrown at him.

    Abandonment

I agree..... however he was unconscious, due to the serious injuries to both it was never going to restart again, and he wasn't going to leave field for treatment, both remained on pitch with blankets on until ambulances arrived
