    After-Match Fight

A referee in my locality when doing his pitch inspection heard one of the players warming up say 'oh no we've got that little tw*t again' . He red carded him much to his astonishment. His team did have more than the basic 11 and so were able to start with a full team.

    penalty spot in a dip

I have come across a few of these where there is shallow hole in pitch caused by marking of the spot. I have always allowed kick to be taken from either behind or next to spot. Am I OK to do this or does kick have to be taken from spot even if it means ball is in a dip.

youth matches players goading each other

This seems to becoming more prevalent with players trying to wind up opposition. Examples are poking fun at appearance, how they talk, making comments about mistakes made or what the score is. I have been intervening and threatened cards which I suppose I could yellow for unsporting behaviour -...

How could I manage this situation

I had a few of these which led to a few yellow cards. Now as soon as I see this about to happen I say very loudly 'I will have the ball thank you' and so far this has totally eradicated the problem as I have instantly been given the ball.

defender blocking shot diverts ball to attacker in offside position

I will add a little more detail to my original post. When attacker drew his foot back to shoot defender was already starting to move his leg in the anticipated direction of the shot and his leg was still moving when the contact with the ball occurred. I did not consider save option as not close...

    Advice please...

I would recommend giving club linesman brief guidance on when to flag for offside as you will find massive disparity in their opinion on what is active. I tell them only to flag when player has touched the ball or challenged a defender and elaborate this point by saying that is trying to tackle...

defender blocking shot diverts ball to attacker in offside position

Incident in game attackers shot from outside penalty area. defender is about 4 metres away and sticks out leg to block shot and diverts ball to another attacker inside the penalty area who was in an offside position when the shot was initially taken. The block had changed the direction of the...

    Stupid Things Players Say

"You can't give him a red card for calling the linesman a f*****g cheat. it should be a yellow card - you can only give a red card if he punches someone in the face" team mates reaction to me showing a red card.

    Dissent

All of those comments are personal and warrant a yellow card without warning. You turn up to referee a game of football and should not have to put up with this. players all know how they are supposed to behave and should know the respect code so don't mess around with warnings, I doubt you will...

Quick indirect free kick in the box.

There was an incident in the premier league quite a few seasons ago - I can't remember the teams. Keeper penalised for handling backpass around the penalty spot. As soon as the ref blew keeper rather naively dropped the ball near to his feet. Attacker instantly placed the ball and passed it...

    Amateur football

I have turned up to ref games to find both teams in the same kit, no white lines marked, late kick off due to away team arriving late, flat balls and no pump, torn nets with large gaping holes, no corner flags, nobody to run the line for one of the teams. Also on countless times match has not...

    What football expects

OK in the clip it Looks like 7 subs/ players replaced have entered the field of play without the referees permission. Who would dish out 7 yellow cards in this instance ?

    Dissent

For the approach in the car park I would have done 2 separate misconduct reports. One against the player and a second one for the team failing to control its spectators for the players fathers comments.

Bizarre one today - what do you think?

I had the same issue with portable goals which had wheels at the front about 4 inches behind the post. shot hit the front of the wheel and bounced back into play without fully crossing the line. I played on and treated it as if shot had hit the post.

    2018/2019 Laws of the game

Some good ideas to stop time wasting but there is an extra one i think they should have added. If a player takes ball into corner and tries to block opponent from getting to ball an indirect free kick could be awarded for impeding their opponent.

    Throw in query

If a player is 15 metres too far down the pitch I will always redirect him to the correct spot before he has chance to take it. If he does it too quickly for me to intervene then I will give foul throw.

New Grounds and 4G (or 3G)

Local non league team to me have new 3g pitch installed. They will not let anyone on there wearing anything other than plastic moulded boots. astro-turf trainers are banned. This is on the advice they were given by pitch manufacturers to prolong life and to meet the terms of there warranty.

premier league and EFL clampdown on dissent

I like all grass roots referees really welcomed this when it was introduced at the start of last season. What has happened to this ? I regularly see on TV players verbally abusing referees whilst jabbing a finger in their direction and they are no longer punished. Does anyone know if they have...

    Captains

From my experience most managers pick the player who most likes to argue with the referee as captain. Had one the other week who ran 30 yards to shove an opponent who committed a foul and was astounded when i yellow carded him as he thought he was allowed to do this as he was the captain.
