What's peoples views on this, if the keeper had only connected with the ball and missed Mateta's head ? What are we giving ?

I totally disagree, i'm afraid. In my opinion, he knew full well it was endangering the safety of the opponent by having his foot that high

What's really annoying me today, is pundits and supporters that are saying "im sure he didn't mean to hurt Mateta" etc. Well sorry, that's rubbish ! If you attempt to play a ball that high with your foot, you know full well it could make contact with his head and cause a nasty injury.

That's about as bad as it can get. I just hope the authorities punish him really harshly !

I've done loads of these over the years. Good idea if teams have lots of league games to get through, and there are opponents they haven't faced yet. I have no issue with a sent off player playing the 2nd game. They're in effect two completely different games.

You can see where those young players get their anger from, can't you 🤔 It happens a lot more than people realise. Just hope the local FA throw them out

Totally agree. I also coach a kids team and some of the things you hear from the other coaches is embarrassing. They get their Level 1 coaching licence then think they can do whatever they like. There are processes in place (ie marks for the opposition...coaches, players, supporters) but the...

Either MO and the VAR officials don't know what they're doing, or the panel have totally thrown them under the bus and made it 10x more difficult for all us referees out there

What a complete farce it's become. Totally agree with the comment about a court jury not being influenced etc. I'd like to know what evidence this panel has (that deemed it not a red card) that is different to the clear view of MO and the VAR room ?

The most annoying thing for me is....you have a very experienced referee that had a very close, clear and unobstructed view of the incident. He didn't deem it a "trip", he thought it was a rake to the ankle (may have graised his shin). IMO it was an orange and could have gone either way. VAR...
