    Some players don't learn....

Good advice. I would add, don't be a wallflower. Tell the player to shut up and get on with the game and if he wants to disrespect you then he will earn his card properly.

    Penalty kick

Don't need one. He missed, goal kick and move on. I can guarantee you'll cause more problems awarding a retake than you would just playing on. Even if people notice, it's an easy sell to say that as it's missed we just play on.

    Penalty kick

Surely if the taker blasts it wide you just get on with the game? I must get this talk every time I'm out with L3s, if it goes wide we are playing on regardless of any encroachment. I think it's good advice -why cause a rumpus for something no one will have noticed?

    MCL & ACL

Doesn't sound like you should be doing much at all, but if you can try and get a physio to strap it and show you how it's done for reference. It might get you through a few weeks. I certainly wouldn't try and put off getting it sorted, assuming you can get it done try and do it over Jab/Feb...

    Player not giving name

You're saying on Wholegame you typed in Mickey Mouse? That doesn't sound right to me, or at least is the opposite of what I was told and how I have reported it in the past.

    Player not giving name

Slightly different process should be followed than above. Failing to give a name can be a cautionable offence, and if you need to send off a player whose name you do not have, you must include this on a misconduct report (or on the send-off misconduct report if it is a straight red). Along the...

    The use of homophobic language

This is a great example of when this forum is so useful, differing opinion and coherent arguments for and against. We should remember that many members on here referee on a Sunday morning at the local rec, and some of us in the semi-professional game, and the reality is that refereeing at these...

    Cold/Numb Hands...

I'm sure I've read that you can rub Vaseline (other petroleum jelly products are available) on the back of your hands to keep them warm?? Not tried it myself as yet, but will probably do so next time I'm out in the middle. Anyone with experience?

    Dislocated Shoulder

To put this to bed and to advise anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves with a similar injury... Got to Thursday pre-game and I couldn't raise my arm above shoulder height, and not particularly quickly. I had already advised the ref secretary of the injury and decided to come off of the...

    Fitness and promotion

Firstly, don't worry about lining v reffing, you have at least 5 years to even worry about the pathway and you will never get that far if you're not a good referee. All of the modern advice for fitness is high impact intensity training (HIIT), or interval training as it's also known. There are...

    Dislocated Shoulder

Don't worry, everyone's aware of the situation so they'll be no surprises. Another ref is already on standby.

    Dislocated Shoulder

I'm still assigned to middle on Saturday, and am playing a game of 'chicken' really as i'm not 100% i'll be fit, but i think i'll be ok. I'm still in the sling, but have had my arm out and i have some movement, but can't raise it above 45deg at the moment. I have a follow up at the hospital...

    Dislocated Shoulder

Damn....dislocated my shoulder at the gym on Thursday, not pleasant, and now in a sling. Not knowing much about this type on injury I've spent a few days researching and I'm hoping to be out of the sling fairly quickly and will assume I can referee while rehab-ing, but will wait for the...

    Aims

Depends - L4 is very much the bottom-end of the ladder, you're more of a part-time ref / full-time lino and that's not the right way round for me. I want to get to L3 but I know how tough it is and as this is my first season I know I will need to wait for a bit. I have my own targets for...

Restart after ball put out of play for an injury

The definition of excessive force is on Page 81. That was the point being made.

Restart after ball put out of play for an injury

Incorrect. It expressly says 'and' in the LOTG. I only pointed this out originally as the OP will need to word his misconduct report carefully to avoid issues.

Restart after ball put out of play for an injury

Be careful though, as that's not the definition of excessive force is it? It's excessive if he endangered the safety of his opponent, etc., not because you thought it was out of order and he wasn't playing fair. Sounds like it should have been a caution unless you can demonstrate it was...

    First assessment 6-5

Nice one Dave. The assessment doesn't mention if it was a "challenging" game, which is normally the buzz word to get to a higher score. Either way, nice start to the marking season, and the pessimist in me thinks you can now have 2 very average games and still be above the required mark, which...

    FA Referee Store WARNING

I wonder what that looks like on the yellow training top....:wtf:. (Edited to add: Looking at the website, the description for the badging is different for the referee shirt versus all of the other items. Worth asking about) I read the gumph on the website last night and you will struggle to...
