    Yesterdays game

After a few seasons you will have heard all the usual moans and groans so many times it just becomes background noise. You won't even think about it. Personally if the players want the ball changed then I'll have it changed. They're the ones playing with it. Pretty rare to have a manager moan...

Open Age first game "proper" back

No mention of a Nazi signal, he just called him Mr Hitler. OFFINABUS is obviously upto the individual & I'd support the referee here. But I don't think I'd be showing a red card here personally & I don't believe it to be racist at all. It's just an incredibly stupid comment and would be dissent...

    Utd v Liv

Thoughts on VAR protocol in the Liverpool non penalty? Taylor sees a foul right on the edge of the box and signals an advantage (I assume he's thinking it was outside the box and I thought that at the time too). VAR take a look and no penalty is awarded. It was one of those where whatever the...

    Overruling the Lino

Looks like it's the correct call but going forward, do you want to be overuling a club AR over these close calls. I can't see the ball but you're not looking so cannot overule due to having a better angle etc and this is really close so a tough one for a club AR. So the decision is correct but...

    Fitness test

That may pose some funding issues in the CI's, particularly as there will be very few participants & hiring in medical services is expensive (no NHS here & St John's are expensive) but that's something that needs to be overcome.

    Fitness test

Apologies for dragging up a dead thread, but we're about to commence our fitness tests on the Channel Islands but I'm hearing that it's now timed gates (which isnt a surprise) and that we need to have a qualified medical person there? That's never been the case before. Has that been other...

    Level 4 development day

Does anybody know the dates/locations of the level 4 development dates. A friend of mine has only been offered Warwick on MOAS but I know there was more locations when I did it...

    Everton - Forest

This is obviously seeclation from me (and I havet read the 4 pages on this thread!). But to get the appointment it's probably safe to assume Atwell didn't nominate Luton as the club he supports. Clattenburg obviously knows Atwell so has he contacted Webb the day before (as some journos are...

    long ball getting caught out

I've just done an OA game. Lowest level of football where I now live. Someone in their early 60s would be perfect for this level.

    long ball getting caught out

Keep going as long as you can. Age group games will be easier physically, but you said you're a pretty fit man and it sounds like you're in your early 60s so I'd personally keep going & retain your fitness. If it's grassroots you're refereeing then some of the players aren't exactly Usain Bolt...

    Mental health

Forgive me for being blunt, but you are going to get dissent (sometimes a ridiculous amount), you are going to get challenging situations through no fault of your own and you are going to get loads of things wrong. You will overthink these both before and after games in your first season or two...

A first for me in 28 years

    The FA Refereeing Course

It would but the reality is that there's not enough referees in most counties to cover all the games never mind use some for mentoring purposes. I highly recommend speaking to your RDO & asking to work as an AR asap. You will be working with and learning off a referee in the middle who will...

    A new beginning

It's not too old but equally the chances of becoming a full time official are quite small. Speak to your RDO & put yourself forward for promotion as soon as they allow and go from there. Level 7-5 refereeing is amateur. Level 4 is where it becomes a bit more serious and you are in effect doing...

    Advice regarding verbal abuse/confidence

Have a quiet word in passing, telling them to stop it now before any further action is required. If it happens again blow your whistle when the ball is out of play and call the player over (make him walk to you). Explain clearly that the next time there's dissent you will sin bin them (everyone...

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

Let's not compare 13-0 in the local kids league with a technology failure in the PL. Good luck as you progress Gabriel. You're enthusiasm is a credit to you.

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

As you progress to adult football and climb that ladder, you will find agitations on these situations during most games. That's where you need to be proactive. Tell the keeper to get it going, tell the captain that his keeper is close to being penalised. At goal kicks stay close to the penalty...
