The use of red and yellow cards in pre season games.

I had a pre-season game before last season and had 4 red cards! Hey, I never punched anyone! I was going on holiday the day after so had to get the reports in before packing. Also had an under 18 academy friendly game before this season and issued and reported a red card. The Premier League...

The use of red and yellow cards in pre season games.

I think if the clubs are official and are in fact on WGS they are classed as sanctioned. I'm under the impression that it's the charity games and work type friendlies that need to be approved by CFA.

    Not Enough Games

And that positive attitude will make all the difference. Good luck and well done.

    Mad dissent

    Hey, thanks.

    Mad dissent

Home team leading 5-0 with half an hour to go and concede a free kick. After the whistle the home centre half launched the ball over by the club house. Easy yellow card for dissent as he had plenty of time to stop and think. 15 minutes later at 6-0 the home left back overlapped but I blew for...

    Jlloyd Samuel

Yes, very sad. I refereed a Cheshire League match in the same division last night. Everyone wanted and observed a full minutes silence.

Ok... Some may think me a jerk

It's not being pedantic; it's violent conduct. Oh, and getting kicked in the shins when the ball isn't even there doesn't sound much like fun to me.

Pre match brief in centre circle

They did. I slightly exaggerated on his minimal use of words.

Pre match brief in centre circle

I was on the line for my son on a county cup game this season. I've run the line for him before but not for a while. Anyway, he got the captains in and said "you're heads you're tails" tossed the coin and said stay "as you are, your kick". He's been about a bit, my lad, so he knows they...

AR signalling for a sub during quick attacking throw in

Totally agree with you here. One "substitution event" can mean several subs at the same time but once he's let you run back into position selective deafness is certainly the way to go and he can be as furious as he likes!

    Manchester City v Swansea City

That's a long winded way of saying Sterling dived! Falling before contact? Good one.

    Junior/Youth What do I do??

What? I would most certainly have told the league secretary to wind his neck in. You did apply the laws of the game as the referee is the sole timekeeper.

    Additional Time For Penalty

It's really simple. If you're asked how long is left just say "we're in the last minute". You haven't backed yourself into a corner and the added time is entirely up to you. It works before half time and before full time. As Minty said, the timing is not that accurate.

AR signalling for a sub during quick attacking throw in

If a team want to make a substitution you surely have to allow them. The manager would probably have asked AR "next time it's out liner" so AR is expecting it. I can't see any option to communicate this with the referee other than the flag when the ball goes out of play. Your AR didn't put...

    Running the line Sunday

You won't get slated because you've made a great case for what you want to do. You're right, it is a hobby and nobody should feel under pressure to chase promotions if it's not for them.

    Running the line Sunday

Yes, twice. Bloody fitness test! Got on at 49 and kicked off at 50. On again at 52 and kicked off at 53. Bloody fitness test!

    Running the line Sunday

34? I started at 42 and got to level 4. Twice! Knuckle down, it can be great fun.

    Running the line Sunday

You make a fair point there. However, the only way you get to know the right people is by getting involved, by taking appointments you're not happy about, by going to RA meetings, by going watching referees on other games when you don't have one yourself. When I started out in refereeing I...

    Running the line Sunday

MIB, are you just doing it for the money or are you trying to make a hobby of refereeing? We had a presentation at our RA a couple of seasons ago by an ex premier league assistant. It was titled "Just running the line" and covered the importance of assistant referees at any level. It was a...
