    Making the step into refereeing

Strong whistle. Strong signals and when you are wrong be wrong with confidence and think about the game after the game not during.

    Junior/Youth County cup nomination

No match fee, but you will get expenses, that is what happens in my county. Again in my county you get invited to a county finals training evening and they do a bit of a training session. Wear a suit on match day and enjoy reffing in a team of 3/4.

    The Stepped Approach

Last night a player showed dissent so I intended to use the stepped approach, I called in the captain but myself or the captain never even got to say a word as the player talked himself into a 10 minute sit down. When being observed I was told to lose the quiet warning step if the first dissent...

    Stats

It doesn't. I run when I need to when reffing and I run alot less now from when I first started, as I read the game better so move into positions which are beneficial rather than when I first qualified I was a cross between a headless chicken and road runner!

    Stats

I can run 13 miles in 97 minutes which is a half marathon to give you some idea 21k for all youngsters. When I ref a better standard of football my distance drops as I have to run less . I am not wedded to the watch being accurate it is just a guide as how we run when reffing is different to how...

Are you putting that through ref?

This was the first time the comment was followed by more persuasion. Normally its asked and then dropped straight away when they realise they are not going to get the answer they want to hear. I am more concerned that if it was a young new ref he would feel intimidated and not put it through. I...

    Cautions

yes you were right to caution, you were wrong not to send him to the sin bin. Lesson learnt and the next gobby one has an eight minute rest.

Are you putting that through ref?

It was never an option not to put them through but does any one else get this or is it just round my way?

Are you putting that through ref?

Been reffing for 4 seasons and have been asked about this on several occasions always on youth games never at OA. I have always thought it is just teams trying to pull a fast one. I have now changed my mind. Last week blues v reds U18s 3 cautions 1 C2 sin bin and 2 c1 aa to 2 players who squared...

Sin Bins - are you finding they help?

I have never used it twice in a game and when I have used it I have had no more dissent. I use the stepped approach unless it is stupid dissent for the sin bin to be used straight away

Sin Bins - are you finding they help?

Noticably drop in dissent at OA but at senior youth they just cant keep their mouths shut.
