    Level 4 fitness test

Great to see these positive results so far - well done! You will nail it at the weekend. I dragged myself down to the local track yesterday lunchtime... hot is not the word !!!! Managed 2900m although started off _way_ too fast which I regretted within the first 30 seconds ;-) I'm therefore...

    Level 4 fitness test

That's actually a very good way of mixing up your training: It's harder to train in such conditions, so you'll find it easier back in the UK. I was on holiday in the Med somewhere prior to my L4 nomination test, flying in the same morning. I'd been running regularly when abroad and as a...

Players wearing GPS trackers - legal?

Used in WSL as well. In my last game, the clubs made a point of telling the referee (no surprises!).

    Level 4 fitness test

Passing the test is more of a psychological one than a physical one. Once you know you can pass it, you will pass it every time. Especially on test day when you are part of a pack, all rooting for each other and helping each other round. Of course, you should all know this, as you needed to...

    Level 4 fitness test

I imagine they've accidentally attached the L3 blood pressure certificate to the L4 fitness test notifications. That said, surely 2700m doesn't phase you anyway?

    Level 4 Candidates

Same for L3 (well, the merit emails went out last night, so I guess such things can be determined from the results).

    Unwanted advantage

Completely agree with this. If there is an obvious foul, but you don't flag because you perceive an Advantage could be played, you are dropping the referee in it if he/she does then give the FK. The fact you're not flagging gives the players ammunition to comment, "Even your lino hasn't given...

Let's talk social... from Neale Barry

I was once called to account (thankfully, only at League level) when comments were made about a team manager on my Facebook page. It wasn't even me that made them, but as they were on my page, I was asked to explain them! (The guy who wrote them ended up writing a letter of apology, I think).

Junior/Youth What whistle to use in which situation?

The Fox 40 is for use in football refereeing. The Sonik is for use when you want an item to practice stamping on repeatedly until it can never be heard again during a game of football.

    complimenting players

Yes, this works very well. Plus it helps sell any eventual foul in the event of the player deciding _not_ to be careful and lunging it! Can also work well in front of the benches. It makes it clear you've seen any physical contact but that you are happy that the players are both giving as...

Average Mark for Promotion to Level 4

The marks get tighter and tighter as you go up the levels. Some supply leagues (which you will be heading towards) are exceptionally tight on marks. Be prepared!

    Next Season's Aspirations...

Interesting that Fitness is probably the most popular goal here. The good news is that you can 'fix' that before the season even starts ;)

    Vardy's dive

    Blatant dive.

    Vardy's dive

No, he wouldn't. There's a clear difference between 'going down a bit easily' (which players do ALL THE TIME and it is our job to distinguish between a foul and someone that needs to get on the weights) and someone making a clear _effort_ to adjust their position to engineer a 'foul' and win a...

    LOTG EXAM

The questions are worded so that they mirror the wording in Law, so you shouldn't be too easily tripped up. For example... Q: A red player commits a reckless challenge on an opponent. What do you do? A1: Stop play and caution the red player for unsporting behaviour. Restart with a Direct...

Assessor says not to use verbal warnings for fouls?

It's a judgement call. There are cases where a strong talking to for a careless-but-close-to-reckless challenge is appropriate. Other times, depending on the context and temperature of the match, you will switch to considering it reckless and issuing the caution. The important thing is not...
