Junior/Youth Some advice on abandonment due to injury

You would need to inform the relevant competition. So, for a league match, however you normally send in your match reports. You would only need to inform county if it was a county cup match, or if an abandonment was due to misconduct.

"Handbags" - what code for yellow card?

If you're going to caution both players for USB (AA), then pulling the captains in is not really going to add any value, imho.

    Looks familiar! Forum member?

I know this gentleman. He ran the line to me on my first ever Combined Counties game (Division 1). He was spot-on!

    Open Age Calling players over

This is what I do. The initial reaction from most players when being called over is that they think they are going to be cautioned (and therefore may react negatively). If it's just a chat, TELL THEM (and of course others nearby will hear) so it helps keep things calm. Along similar lines, if...

    Police

Yes. On a pre-season friendly there was an allegation of a punch. I didn't see it (behind my back) but the targeted player had clearly lost a tooth and there was blood. Submitted report to FA (obviously stating I didn't see it, and the other facts). The player had given a fake name, but he...

That's good advice, but I wasn't the one asking :)

Junior/Youth Too soft on dissent; problems come home to roost

The moment you identify that 'chippy' comments live you mentioned above start to creep in, you need to take action. The first advice I would give you is that you should be able to determine where the comments are coming from. If you genuinely have no idea then that points to a potential...

    New Assessments

Your best bet is to get going with Open Age games to build up the experience prior to being assessed. Perhaps take a mentor with you if you want that additional support. Really, the key difference is that players will be a bit more canny with how they try and test your authority, whereas youth...

    Possible PK

I'm more concerned that your AR is flagging when he is only '50% sure' about a penalty decision! Keep that flag down!

refsix - the Smartwatch and Mobile app for Referees

In terms of other reasons, it's also ensuring isolation from outside influences. The higher you go, the more likely that matches you are officiating on have live Twitter feeds, and even videos of KMDs uploaded within minutes of the event happening. A video of a penalty decision in the first...

    Match Control - AA

Well done: It's really pleasing to see you on top of dealing with USB/AA offences so proactively. It's similar to my mindset: I'm happy to 'manage' (to some degree) footballing offences, but my tolerance level drops like a stone when it is anything off the ball or handbags related. There's no...

Are you giving a foul for this shoulder charge

I'm happy with that. Shoulder charge, wins the ball, no-one complains. Don't go looking for fouls that nobody wants.

Was I right too to abandon

Can you talk me through this incident a bit? You mention the defender has won the ball here, and in the process blocked the run of the striker. Well, that in itself isn't an issue. 'Blocking off' tends to be a foul when the defender makes no attempt to play the ball at all.

    Lost a couple of marks

If I ever need to stop active play due to two players having verbals (or whatever), a caution for one of them (minimum) is coming. This sends a very strong message that you are not being messed around by theatrics. It isn't mandatory to caution for a DFK being taken early. However, from your...

    Know your competition rules...

My mentor informed me that a referee applied the Competition Rules incorrectly on the FA Vase last weekend: They failed to play Extra Time. Obviously, that won't be a good outcome!

    Open Age Absolute Disaster

Well done on your first game, OP. Tough out there, isn't it? The mantra to remember is that YOU are the referee and that YOU are in control. As soon as anyone attempts to damage your credibility or take away match control in a game, take firm action. That could be over a foul. It could be a...

    From the centre spot........

Seems a tradition in my games that the first kick-off after half-time will be a shot on goal.

    select group watch

You can certainly get cheaper watches with all the Apps support. I'm a big fan of the Garmin Forerunner 735. It has a wrist-based HR sensor which is handy for grabbing that data without a strap, and it seems pretty accurate (I've used straps before).
