This is incredibly situational. It really is a combination of empathy but also not shirking. Empathy only goes so far - If someone oversteps the mark, you need to deal with that, regardless of having empathy for them feeling the way they do.

Got to admit, I've performed a dropped ball in the penalty area for the 'keeper many a time following an injury situation, and not once has an opposition player attempted to challenge for it. Only advice I would give is to ask the keeper to wait for you to get upfield before he/she punts it...

I'm covering anything from 9.5k to 12km in my games, and that was about the same at supply league level. If anything, it is now on the lower side of that even though my fitness has improved due to the current positioning guidelines, and needing to leave escape routes open.

I haven't seen the kicking the ball away incident quoted here. One thing to be mindful of though, is that there is a difference between 'kicking the ball away' and 'delaying the restart'. Did this one delay the restart?
