I'm with @jack.prescott it's not a natural thing to be doing. I let a lot go when players jump for a header that is 50/50 but I've got very little tolerance for nudges and pushes like that.
Had this at the weekend with a NAR. Player through on goal and tripped by a defender, free kick on the edge of the box all day long. Next thing the NAR is flagging like it's the end of days. By the time I've made eye contact with him and he's gestured for me to come over I've completely lost...
Had a good u17 cup final yesterday, lots of banter with the players. Offside and the attacker stands in front of the free kick. I tell him to step away otherwise he's going in the book. He genuinely said, as he was backing up, "I wont get booked for that." My response was "trust me fella I'm...
Give it a rest fella. I'm a full time house husband, I completely maintain our house. On our car insurance policy my occupation is "house wife" (thanks for that Tesco insurance). I'd probably be one of the last people to genuinely believe a womans place is the kitchen. So wind your neck in son.
Cup final yesterday turned up to find the keeper in a completely black kit. He ended up playing with a bib on, but was the only option. Needless to say the league officials from the league the cup was part of were not impressed!
Worst thing about the weekend was the wind really was all over the place, so meant sometimes the ball would fly to one side or the other. It also meant if it looked like it was going to drop directly onto my head even if I tried to run out the way then the wind could still hold up the ball or...
@mikedn had the same this weekend, a swirling wind which meant goal kicks were all over the place. So meant they were either flying in every direction imaginable, or even better seemed to drop right on top of me!
In fairness tapping it back to the keeper is probably better for my match control if I've dropped a total clanger. At least 22 players hate me, then they'll always expect rubbish. Things could get out of hand if i give a bad pen, its scored, then the team conceding end up losing their rag over it.
County Cup final I refereed the 4th official had a good laugh as both sets of managers were good fun. He gave up with the boards for subs as it was u13 and all the kids had stupid shirt numbers like 64 and 99!
Had a good one from a manager the other day. Reds v blue, red attacker in the 2nd minute closing down a defender and flies into a challenge, caught the defender late, yellow card all day. Call him over and get the book out. The red manager shouts "but thats his first tackle, you cant book...
@happy whistler although I understand the point you're making. But personally I'd never EVER admit a shout from the sideline has influenced my decision making. All decisions are 100% mine, others I've found this can spiral out of control a bit.
No wonder everyone thinks referees are d*cks. Fair play to the team taking it, but if they choose to do that then nothing I can do about it. If I was 100% happy with my decision to give it then what difference does it make what the players think.
AS mentioned there is a great thread on here I took loads of advice from. @Brian Hamilton posted some extremely good advice on prematch instructions, which I tried to condense down to an email to the assistants on my county cup final rather unsuccessfully!
I would say these assistants you...
Top work chap.
Had my first county cup final this season. As mentioned above try and speak to the ref before to see how he plans to turn up dress code wise etc. I would also suggest take every bit of equipment if you can. Better to be there on the day with three sets of flags to pick from...
Ah thats not too bad. I tend to do youth games so not always a full 90 minutes but for the older lads I'm covering about 9km a game, normally a tiny bit over, maybe tiny bit over. Then as the age goes down and the time decreases a bit it starts to drop down a little. For under 11's I seem to...
What made me laugh is he wants to win trophies and then is 'flattered' by Arsenal's interest. Now I might be a bitter Spurs fan, but I'd hardly class moving to Arsenal as a move to a team that has an overflowing trophy cabinet in recent times!
