    Football now vs past

I think the premier league has had a drop of enjoyment of the fans on the whole. Obviously there will be exceptions but when given the offer of watching a non league game or Liverpool vs Chelsea I will probably watch the step 6 game. Also, I think the EFL has become the more exciting leagues to...

    Getafe Vs Real Betis

The only reason I thought it would be interesting is, as per usual, the wider football fanbases have no idea on why a referee has made a decision.

    Getafe Vs Real Betis

Interesting red for Antony here, looks to be little contact but my first reaction was red.

    W4 - W3 / L7 - L6

Unfortunately, unless you are a L4 in the mens game there isn't really any progression as an assistant, due to there not being promotions for just an assistant until then. (not too sure how it works in the womens game)

    Atalanta v Club Brugge

I know his actions cannot be excused, but I genuinely think he's angrier at falling over whatever the other player did 😂

    Double headers

That is another none of us had mentioned. If you got a yellow for a challenge in the first half and you still have a clean slate to batter someone, of course you are gonna take it.

    Double headers

All I keep thinking of, is how mentally exhausting that could be for everyone involved. Imagine you've just lost 1 game 7-0 and the poor kids have to go out with it literally "still 0-0". Glad my leagues never adopted this.

    Double headers

I remember the season after Covid was the only time I can remember a frantic rush to get games in for youth football. Even then they chose to have a 6pm kick off midweek before even considering a double header. I distinctly remember 16 yr old me doing as many as 9 games in one week in that period.

    Respect handshake

Although tbf the idea of the respect handshake, does always seem funny to me. "Good luck" is then followed up by 22 men (or women) getting in each others faces for the next 90 mins. Not much respect shown after the kickoff.

    Respect handshake

It was in the league rules for my local step 7 league. However you would only see the players walk out with the referee at the top division, where they have neutral assistants. Even less likely to see the referee enforce the handshake, with it often having them split as soon as you get to the pitch

    "You've ruined the game ref"

Just ignore the parents and coaches, they aren't happy that poor little Timmy gave away a pen in a game they are losing badly. Like it has already been said as long as you think you had a good game, you can ruin all the games you want.

    Read Madrid vs…….Referees

Can't believe Real are claiming that the referees were manipulating the game to make sure the team with some of the best players in the world could not beat the Spanish equivalent of Wolves. (No offence to any wolves fans)

    New 2 games in

Ok so the main thing I take from that is that they will be a bit quicker on the ball than you are used to. Something I was told once by an older referee years ago was that you don't need to be able to keep up, just make it look like you are by having a good position. Probably the best bit of...

    New 2 games in

I think the attitude towards you will be the biggest change. Depending on what division it is, they might not even be better ability wise. Just deal with the low level dissent where you can. I found that speaking to them like adults and not children, would make them be a bit better behaved, as...

    Pre-Match with Coaches

Strangely enough, my mind has decided to forget pretty much everything that was said pre match. That might be down to the previous 4 weeks worth of games all getting called off though.

    Pre-Match with Coaches

Had my first game as a L4 last night and realised I didn't really know what to say to the managers when doing the team sheet exchange, purely because I'm used to just having them appear in the changing room. Found myself a bit lost for what to say. What would you recommend saying to appear like...

    David coote

I have been fortunate in the last couple of years to work with Isabel Chaplin and Nicoleta Bria, who were just made FIFA ARs, and the amount of abuse they received from the crowd was disgusting. It amazed me because they were probably the best officials I had worked with up to that point in the...

Also something I completely missed, don't know how this went under the radar 😅

    First game

Welcome to never being able to watch a football match the same again!! At some point the nerves will just disappear and you will be able to go out there confident most weeks. One piece of advice is that no matter how good or bad you think you did in a game do not let it get to you. Still very...

    Chelsea (W) vs Arsenal (W)

I can't find the clip now, but on X this morning I saw another angle which shows she received a caution for the pen (which I thought was harsh tbh). and then you can see her visibly shout at Heaslip before being given her marching orders.
