Observers (Step 6 and above) To No Longer See The Overall Mark Awarded To Referees

As with everything there are pros and cons. The process was used in NLN & S before Obsevers were no longer used at the end of the 2024/25 season. The main con being that whereas Observers generally cast an eye over the overall mark to double check to ensure the report is accurate, by not seeing...

    County RDO'S

Same thing happened in my location whereby I understand why the RDO left because budget not approved so organised events were being cancelled. Also, politics behind the scenes, so was operating with one hand tied behind his back. CFA’s with issues need to get their act together because if the...

    County RDO'S

Crazy decision to get rid of RDO’s but common sense prevailed with getting one back.

    Newcastle v Spurs penalty

It’s lucky Richarlison didn’t receive a 2nd caution but it was so blatant it was almost laughable. Had it been his first offence I reckon he would have received a yellow.

    Newcastle v Spurs penalty

I would agree with your last para if they constantly did this & especially more than once at the same incident. At the end of the day, hopefully what the Newcastle penalty will do is to highlight to players, don’t do it or you run the risk of a penalty being awarded.

    Newcastle v Spurs penalty

If Spurs captain hadn’t equalised with his overhead/bicycle kick then there could have been another VAR referral with a similar pulling to ground by a Newcastle defender.

    Return?

There were many occasions when I came away from a game not having enjoyed it, but the pull of being involved in football and hoping the next game would be better/more enjoyable enabled me to keep at it until a messy divorce brought things to an end - hence why I then became an Observer. So...

    VAR and CKs

Overkill in my opinion. Having watched lots of PL & EFL this season on Sky, between the Referee & active AR, 99% of contested goal kicks/corner kicks have been accurate. Having more incidents referred to VAR is only going to spoil/slow the game.

    Chelsea v Arsenal

This is also annoying about the modern game - the charge of lack of consistency by Referees by a Manager who was at both games and not seeing the obvious differences: “Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was frustrated. Not because of the dismissal of Moises Caicedo against Arsenal on Sunday, but about...

    Chelsea v Arsenal

No, but positioning oneself in front of the goalkeeper within the 6 yard box and ducking is a version of goal-hanging & in most cases always was unless it was Sammy Lee in the 1981 League Cup Final!!

    Chelsea v Arsenal

I get it that we are in the world of micro-managing VAR toe nail offsides or very close to it, but we often say what the intention of Law is. The initial & only intention of the original offside Law was to prevent goal-hanging. Just saying. 😜

    West Ham v Liverpool

And he wasn’t even involved in the offence the Referee penalised. Crazy especially since just back from a suspension. It’s a case of him having learnt nothing and can’t control himself or his emotions.

    Team Appeal a 11-0 loss

Which would have been the worse thing that they could have done and would deserve any punishment thrown at them. However, they would have been entitled if they hadn’t done so, to have voiced a constructive opinion to the Referee at half time as to why they consider the game should not continue...

    Team Appeal a 11-0 loss

Talk about grasping at straws & desperation & I hope the appeal gets short shrift it deserves & even penalised for a frivolous appeal. There is no doubt the pitch is heavy, even saturated, but the ball was largely rolling from the clips shown. We know that conditions like this does invite...

    VAR issues at Anfield

And there was a further occasion this afternoon in the Arsenal game, with an Arsenal goal in the first half. Just like busses, nothing for ages, then 3 in a row!! 😝

    VAR issues at Anfield

Well all I can say is that ex striker Rooney and ex goalkeeper Green were the analysts on MOTD last night and both considered the goalkeeper was not affected.

    VAR issues at Anfield

May look the same as recently with the offside, but in fact they are different, though again open to interpretation - the first occasion was Robertson with a deliberate action and yesterday with the Forest goal, there was no deliberate action.

    play on or retake?

There have been Referees who have either reported themselves or reported by others for incorrect applications of Law which has had a negative impact on the outcome, whereby the game has been replayed as well as them having a few weeks off so to speak. They have been doing ok since, so should...

    Got 2 low mark reports

Yes seems all rather unfair and even if you Yes all seems very unfair and even if you did make a mistake, no one should be marking zero. If the Referee Secretary is worth his/her salt, hopefully he/she will just disregard & trust the mark of the opponents who hopefully were nearer to where it...
