The Ref Stop

Classic offside lesson

The Ref Stop
And c’mon! Professional coaches have that little clue about OS?!?! In a moderately competent youth game I’d expect the coach to be explaining to his players why the R was right and telling them to get on with it.

A surprisingly large % of match officials would get this wrong.
Some due to simply not knowing the laws and others due to not being switched on.

Really? You really think any significant number of referees don’t know 2LD?? I’d think it a horrific miss by any AR past a 10U game. (I can see it more by an R working solo, not from not knowing the Law, but because the R has a lot going on and in the transition could be difficult to remember/focus on the fact the GK was up.)

The biggest mistake is the attacker, all he had to do was delay his run by a fraction of a second and he'd have been in his own half. Or his team mate who didn't need to pass the ball, he could have just carried on running, although they'd probably have then still stuffed it up by passing to the other attacker who would have been ahead of the ball.

Utterly baffling how professional footballers can so badly misunderstand the offside law. There should have been several red cards shown by the referee after that.

I had the sense from his reaction that the OS player realized what happened when the whistle blew—he didn’t immediately vent at the AR.

Agree on send offs. I imagine the R may have wanted to just get it done and off the field and thought reds would cause things to blow up again even worse.
