The Ref Stop

IFAB changes for 26-27

Blowing the whistle before beginning the five second countdown for throw-ins and goal kicks.

I don't see the benefit of this, potential for confusion and why not just put your hand in the air and bellow five it isn't easily missed.
IFAB has to overcomplicate every procedure, or is the practice of not overusing the whistle something of old men yonder? 😂

Makes sense for a longer restart such as goalkicks, or restarts following a long pause like an injury or hydration break, but absolutely nonsensical to be a requirement to blow the whistle for otherwise routine throw ins. Such is common the more IFAB meddles and restricts the referees discretion to control. Much confusion to follow this season.

The Ref Stop
Another thing I noticed from the Portugal game,
A player down injured, Fernandes had the ball and was shouting at the ref to stop the game because of an injury (he was fine by the way). The ref was shouting for him to put it out.

I believe that if the referee had stopped the game for the injury, regardless of whether the player had treatment, the player must go off for one minute as the game was stopped for them.

Portugal put it out for a throw and as it was a natural stop and the player got up after a few seconds he remained on.

Will be interesting for me on a Saturday and Sunday morning explaining that one!
So far in my previous season friendlies it’s causing the most challenges and questions “but the physio didn’t come on I don’t need to go off” ….. it’s gone take some time and consistency from refs to settle in

Agree and I’m finding on donut occasions I’m counting before I whistle because it’s habit from last seasons GK count. Will take a few games to settle in

Yeah, and having a good whinge. Pointed out they better get used to it in July, because we're not doing it just to be difficult.
