The Ref Stop
I know. There shouldn't be any need for a delay after a, Powerade, hydration break.
There shouldn't be one if one already occured shortly before, such as the Qatar game when the keeper was down injured pre penalty, they all grabbed a drink then.
But it wasn't the pre planned one.
Common sense would have applied and wouldn't have needed a hydration drink.

Common sense went out the window when they decided to do cooling breaks, err, hydration breaks in air conditioned domes.

I think what the referee has seen here is that the defender slid in front of the attacker (in opposed to into the attacker) and the attacker has run into the defender. I can see a case for the referee's viewpoint but IMO it is the defender's challenge that is careless.

For me Mane clearly impedes Mbappes. Mbappes has to initiate the contact as he has to effectively hurdle Manes leg. Penalty all day

In one game the match delegate was seen instructing the officials to delay while looking at an iPad/tablet. I naturally assumed it was something to do with commercials but I stand corrected if not (or maybe it just wasn't Fox). These "hydration" breaks are doing my head in though. In the LOTG, drinks breaks are 1 minute, and cooling breaks 1.5 to 3. If they're going to force utter nonsense, they could at least use the correct terminology.
The commentators were calling them 'dehydration breaks' the other day. I couldn't see the sense in that idea

Well… hope the Socceroos get out of their group else there aren’t going to be any Australians represented in the knockout rounds.
