The Ref Stop

PSG v Bayern

Censorship
End of first half..

Handball?
Very harsh.
Defender turns his body in what id argue is a natural protection keeping his arm close to body as he does so. Im sorry, but you cant turn your body the way he has without the arm moving. The ball strikes the Bayern players thigh/midriff and bounces up towards the arm and hits it.
From close range.
For me, no penalty.

The Ref Stop
Best 46 mins of football I've seen for a long time

Utterly overshadowed by an awful var intervention, don't care what the guidance at uefa is or why, it's wrong and everyone knows it and is laughing at them

If it hits his arm without a deflection I'd still disagree, but I'd somewhat understand. With it the decision is just plain wrong.

Game/tie changing decision potentially for such an incredibly minor infraction. Punishment doesn't come close to fitting the crime

UCL used to be largely dull tactical football.

The football is now far more exciting than the dull dross served up in the EPL.
The football in the EPL has gone sideways and backwards and slow. Started by Pep and adopted by most others with poorer, in comparison, players.
Most teams aim for set pieces.

This game is just fast paced and all action.

ECL refs have never liked seeing a game go by without them leaving their mark.
Now with VAR it's even easier for them to stink a tie up with soft calls (or even dow right bad ones like today).

How 2 refz have concluded that is HB is beyond me.

To any European colleagues, are you taught to referee this way as a young ref or is it the case that only those that do will progress?

Good question, but Rusty is correct in that it has virtually always been the case for as long as I can remember & it doesn’t matter what tweaks are done to the Laws or any additional guidance provided, Europe/UEFA/European Referees continue to do the same thing with the same/very similar incidents - penalise. As to why - looks like it’s just in their DNA.

Germans would like to disagree. Their biggest pet peeve from the last Euros. Interestingly, the referees were English in that case.
Although most supporters in this country would disagree I still think that our officials are overall just as good if not better as anywhere else. The grass is not always green on the other side - they need to see before they speak. I would accept that those that are say in the top 5 in the world are perhaps better than our top 5 & same probably could be said for top 2.
