Hi all, just after some of your more experienced pre-match instructions. I've only ever run the line in a team of 3, never the middle. And given I should probably get some experience before I work with internationals, I have a academy PL shield game this weekend in the middle.

I don't have buzzers, cost being one and not regularly doing middles with NARs and also not falling into bad habits and becoming 'reliant' on buzzing.

I can adapt/change pre-match instructions on the day but just wondered what some of the key/ most sensible things I should be asking/telling are.

Thanks in advance.

What sticks out from being on the receiving end of pre-match briefs, and did it work/not work? Any incidents that made you think how you’d want it handled?

Anything you do slightly differently to others? A personal preference for how/where you’d want them to be involved?

What experience do they have? If a Ref told me that subs should come on at the halfway line I might be considering putting my flag up somewhere quite specific indeed, but would your ARs be appreciative of technical tips etc?

This is taken from that thread @one linked above. If someone gave me these instructions, I would have no idea what they want. Can someone clarify? Thank you.

Law 9 – Ball in and Out of Play
Goal Kicks and Corners: Ensure you're credible on your side. On the far side, let me lead. Monitor the first few goal kicks and drop kicks—no surprises, please. Communicate with the goalkeeper if they're close on drop kicks or coordinate with the left back.

1) Lead the award of GK/CK up to the near post. Be credible to do so by being on / near to the goal line
2) Let referee lead the GK/CK choice beyond your far post
3) Monitor that the ball is overhanging the 6 yard line at the first few goal kicks and likewise ensure that at GK punts, the ball is released before they leave the penalty area
4) If the GK is pushing their luck with 3 above then talk directly to him about this and / or ask the left back to pass on the message to them

Better? 😀

I appreciate it. Thanks!

thanks all, it went without a hitch. As usual stressing about it and overthinking too much. Tie went to ET which the away side nicked in the last minute. Puffed around 12KM distance all in. Both assistants were experienced in their own right we were a well oiled machine on the day 😅
