Frustrating that the technology is having issues for this long but dear god can someone put a cork in Gary Neville hes infuriating to listen to
Agreed. This sort of thing is frustrating with IT, but has happened before & we all know they are going to delay until sorted out & he knows that. If that was Man Utd and they carried on without VAR to a goal that should have been disallowed he would have been furious. Also, if IT failed towards the end of the Liverpool game, the first goal would have incorrectly stood & the 2nd would have probably been incorrectly penalised as offside.

Get your point, but from what I could work out there was no issue with Peter Bankes's audio and communication with VAR, it was purely with Blake Antrobus's comms. In that case I do have some sympathy with Neville's view, do they really need to stop the game for 7 minutes just for an AR's audio? After all, what would happen if they couldn't fix it, you would assume they would just complete the game without it.

Yes, im sure that would be the case - if the message from the IT people is we can’t fix it, then game would go continue without it. I suppose the question is - how long is reasonable before that happens in one of the biggest football events of the year, especially as far as North London is concerned!

The failure rate for such basic technology is very high, it's certainly not uncommon to hear of failures. User error?

Not sure why this is the case because it is known that the comms kits for PGMOL are well thought of, whereas those on NL N&S have almost first generation comms which very often fail or fail for some - but can still be of help & gives them good grounding when they do fail etc.

Comms have been updated to better ones for this season. Last seasons I think had been stored in a cupboard for a short while prior to their distribution to clubs.

I have to agree with Neville's rant on this, officials have been without communication devices long before it came in and survived but it goes to show how much we rely on it in such a big money league that the PL is. It took too long really, unless sky edited the audio, I was quite surprised how patient the fans were, a few boos but hardly a mass negative reaction.

For it to fail at the start of the second half as well really isn't good enough. They must surely test it before they leave the changing room, how did it fail between leaving there and reaching the pitch? I wonder if it is as simple as the batteries running out, in which case just put new ones in before every game. If they are rechargeable then surely they should be charged before every game, not just when a charge is needed. This is a multi-billion point industry, it is becoming laughable that just a basic piece of kit is failing so regularly.

I was Observer at a game when the comms was perfectly fine when all 4 officials left the changing room, but when they arrived pitch side, one just failed to work. Of course at NL N they just got on with it without it.

And - I heard - VAR didn't review it as whistle had gone before it went over the line...

Really, compared to what Arsenal have been doing at corners, it was soft.
Hmm I think you might have heard wrong.
(Edit: been back and looked again and what you have heard is factually incorrect).

From my memory there was a clear gap between the "push" and the goal being scored and the whistle being blown.

My view was that the contact did not match the action of the defender and for me I would have preferred no offence.

You really need to get off the Man City "they've all got it in for us" fan forums 🤣

Peter Bankes clearly waited until the goal was scored before he gave the free kick. I agree with @JamesL, I'd rather not see that given as a free kick as it encourages cheating, but I can understand why it was given as real time it probably looked more of a push than it actually was. And VAR certainly weren't going to get involved once it was given.

I meant I'd heard that that was what PGMOL had said, not that I'd heard the whistle!

Just looking for some consistency in when VAR intervenes.

I spend a lot of time there explaining offside... A mission to explain. (Or else to complain about Spurs' recent equaliser v City being allowed when this was chalked off.)
