Abrahams goal...
Disallowed for ball out of play.
Lots of Villa fans moaning about how far back VAR can go, some complaining that if VAR knew it was out of play why didnt they tell the ref before the goal (the goal was about 30 seconds later).
Some even saying that as Kelleher saved the initial shot the APP resets (Abraham scored the rebound).
My understanding of APP is when the attack is realised and starts.
In this case, when Bailey kicks the ball back in.
His "pass" is cleared long and Aston Villa are on the front foot now down the left, cuts in and shoots, shot saved but Abraham scores rebound.
Brentford have not been able to reset properly is what some have said is part of VARs protocols but if the ball hadn't had gone out they wouldn't have been able to reset anyway and were not out of position because of the wrong on field call (no way could assistant have been able to see it by the way).
So, question is, how far back do you go? Is the ball out of play at the very beginning when you start? Is there a time limit (let's pretend Villa are Man City and like to pass it about for 5 minutes before scoring), section of field you discount?
I know the answer, or I think i know the answer, and that is when the attack is clear and visibly starting (in this case the punt up field that led to the initial shot) but this punt came after the ball out of play and only exists because of the ball out of play.
