Title of this thread is my fave comment on this forum - we really do not need the newest kit or the flashiest equipment to look the part and be great referees.

But what are the most 'luxury' buys you've seen? Inspired by AH introducing personalised Whistles recently!

If that' specific piece of equipment, garment or footwear is going to make you (or me) feel more confident in our apeeance or how we go about our job then i am all for it. Confidence is a big part of refereeing. But I'm not for doing it just because we can.

Yeah I buy into this, I spent silly money on the UEFA approved wrist band with the coin zip for this reason - having the coin loose or with my AR just didn’t feel right. No logic behind it at all and cheaper alternatives didn’t look as good!

Look nice but ow long do these last? The type usually fail where the sole plate is stuck on, you can see the adhesive on those pictures which doesn't breed confidence.

They were released about a decade ago, i think 2016 or 17, and no longer available after a few months unless at inflated prices.

The OP question was about 'Luxury' not value for money. 🤣

But I can tell you with good authority that for refereeing use (not playing), they last more than your avarge boots and in terms of comfort, one of the best.
 
My worst - I bought the Adidas (2015?) night navy champions league ref kit. Used it a few times. Regretted the purchase. Turned up at day 4 of an international youth tournament, got it out, only to find my room mate also had it! The only time it’s been seen as a pair in the wild 🤪

Worst I’ve seen - my chum bought vanishing spray. Worse he took it to a level 6 type sunday league match and used it! He also drives a BMW.

(Both guys are good friends. Love you if you’re reading guys!)

Actually worked with someone who did this about a month ago on a Step 8 equivalent game (yes I know that's not technically a thing!!). He was explicitly told by his MDC not to use it and did anyway! It was quite funny though I'll admit that.
 
Feel like this thread is probably a good place to share a story from the weekend…
Well it starts back at the start of the season where a SG1 and FIFA assistant referee (yes, pick that one up) ran the line to me on an FA cup EP round match, and advised me to get a new coin because the one I was using wasn’t immediately clear as to which is heads and tails.
Fast forward about 6 months and I finally got my finger out my arse and followed his advice.
Fresh from china via Amazon, I ordered a brand new coin like this:

No heads or tails, just a very obvious red or blue.
I then re-injured myself after it arrived, but Saturday was my comeback. I was excited to use my new coin.
I called in the captains, did my little spiel, held out the coin and looked the away captain in the eye…
‘Your call’ I said… ‘Heads, or tails?’ 🤦‍♂️
