Had this a few weeks ago and been thinking about it ever since. Any advice greatly appreciated as always!

A feisty game between two evenly matched sides next to each other in the league. The GK has been throwing verbals at the opposition forward all game and midway through the second half picks up the ball in the box, starts running to the edge and blatantly bodychecks the attacker on the way through. And I mean went out of his way, dipped his shoulder and barged right through the attacker! I've blown up and given a PK (keeper makes a great save but that's besides the point). I didn't book the keeper and I think I might have got both calls wrong. Should it have been:
  1. Indirect FK or a penalty?
  2. Caution or not?

Based on how you're describing it, it sounds like a blatant penalty (and possibly reckless play?) to me so well done.

Unless the actions of the GK were excessively forceful (in which case its a red for serious foul play) then maybe you could have followed up the penalty award with a caution for the GK which likely makes it easier for you to sell.

Just my own opinion though based on what you've written ...
 
I'm with Kes - ball was in play and it's a direct free kick offence that happened in the penalty area, so penalty sounds 100% the right decision.

If it’s red, it’s for Violent Conduct. He can’t be challenging for the ball since he has the ball.
 
If the contact was strong enough for it be obvious - so you can give the pen - then I think at least a yellow is expected.

Look at it the other way - how can deliberately barging someone off the ball be merely careless?

YC is an easy sell and helps you control the situation I think. Unless “brutal” of course then red.

I think it's a really tough sell and you're relatively unlikely to be penalised for it unless it's extremely blatant and the striker makes a meal of it (which no player should have to, but it always helps sell a decision).

It's correct though...

Agree, it's like when keepers come out to collect the ball with their knee unnaturally very high. They usually get away with it even when they clatter someone, but in reality it is a reckless (or worse) action.

Yeah like if the GK runs into him at full speed. Its pretty rare though for this incident. But if they have intent to hurt or injure the player in a dangerous manner, then they have to go. If they sorta just barge the player with a little push to it, it will be yellow.
