I try and catch the coin but if I drop it I'm not tossing it again unless it lands on the edge or gets covered in mud and I can't tell what it is.

The Ref Stop
For some reason my preferred coin is a 10p, if none in the wallet then 2p or 1p will suffice.

A cup final might draw out the 50p for the special occasion 😂

In hundreds of coin tosses i don't recall ever not catching one...

I have a coin I bought off of A&H many years ago. It stays in the ref bag when not in use.

I do have a special coin which I think is from A&H but the 2 sides are too similar and it isn't immediately clear which is which.
The SG1/FIFA assistant referee who ran the line to me in the extra preliminary round replay of The FA Cup (yes, pick that f*cker up) advised me to get a better coin, because you don't want the lasting impression with captains to be one of indecision over which side the coin actually landed on.
I stopped using that one immediately, but have only just ordered a better 'special coin' off the internet, which this conversation prompted me to order.

Why toss and release, with the risk of it landing on its edge, getting muddy, or a clash of heads with one or both captains?
Hold coin in one hand, slap it onto the back of the other hand, "heads or tails?". . . sorted😀
