The Ref Stop

adult game on BUT under 16s off?

The Ref Stop
I think we had a thread about this recently from Kent reg suggesting referees being sent long distances for county cup games.

Hopeful my game will be on. Only rain due is a couple of hours today and then light rain / showers between then and match time. Wind forecast around high 20s mph.
This didn't age well....

Apparently, when the inspecting referee visited in the morning, the pitch was mostly playable with one small troublesome area. He was informed by the home club that they felt with a few hours to work on it, they could make it playable, but the away team were going to have a lot of expense to travel and were allegedly refusing to do so and the league approved for the game to be off...

Step 4 football ladies and gentlemen...

My 3rd consecutive postponement, now over a month since I last refereed a game. Fingers crossed for better luck on Wednesday...

Yeah last year I went the same date in October until the end of Feb without a middle, but that was as a level 4 getting appointed to 1 a month.

Crazy imo. That Away team will now probably have to travel for a midweek game. Seems to me they just didn’t want to play full stop & if the league ordered them too, it may have been problematic for your match control. However, I don’t blame the league for agreeing to a postponement.

Equates to, 'the away side were light on players' and 'the league defaulted to blame avoidance'

The long term forecast is for an active jet stream throughout the winter months. Whilst these forecasts are only really relevant for Government Planning and Insurance Premiums and the like, they're not reliable by any stretch of the imagination. That said, everything points towards wetter winters over the next few decades, so the end-of-season fixture calamity is likely to become common place unless the widespread adoption of artificial surfaces mitigates the issue. It's not the same game for me on artificial, but it's become a necessary evil for a number of reasons

To be fair it didn't help that an hour before the inspected referee inspected the home side told me 'it's unplayable'. Not sure what made them change their mind.

Yes, it sounds like a unenviable call for you to make in advance of travel, but it's not right that the away side effectively called the game off on your behalf

Arguably not right, I agree, but then I suppose it made my life easier in a way! But then we don't get in to refereeing for an easy life!
