The Ref Stop

adult game on BUT under 16s off?

Now upgraded to a red wind alert for the South West and Wales, can't see any football being played in those conditions. EFL games at Plymouth, Cardiff and Newport already called off for safety reasons.

Very rare to get red alerts so they clearly are expecting the worst.

The Ref Stop
My daughter plays Korfball - a sort of cross between netball and basketball played indoors.

Her fixture tomorrow has been cancelled.

But she lives in Cardiff, which has been placed under a red weather warning, so a sensible decision. A day to batten down the hatches.

Am at the mercy of the ferry gods tomorrow 🤞🏻
I remember about 3-4 seasons ago i was appointed to a game at Worthing and at least one of the ARs was travelling from the Isle of Wight. Winds were similar to what is expected tomorrow, but all made it on time & the game was played (on a 3G). Yep, the ferry gods/company will decide whether there can be any sailings.

Merseyside derby postponed - crikey!!

Was always going to be the case, right on the edge of red warning area. No way they will risk people inside a stadium in up to 90 mph winds, had it not been a derby it would have been called off yesterday.

Why did they leave it until this morning to call it off?
Not that you'll have the answers. It doesn't seem right however, given it was obvious last night the game had no chance

From what I am reading, it’s because the meteorological office upgraded weather warning.

Weather Warning has been cemented in place since Lunch Time yesterday
Indeed, the gusts around the Manchester/Liverpool this morning area are slightly less than the speeds forecast

(I'm a weather nerd BTW)

Guessing because it was televised and neither teams or the majority of supporters have to travel

Yes that’s all probable as well as other protocols to follow involving Police, ambulance services etc etc. it’s a big thing to call off a PL game but appropriate for this game.

Bizarrely my game was on today but wind speed was worse than 2 weeks ago.

Mainly the ball went where it was kicked though.

My game (in the yellow warning area) also went ahead, though the majority of games in the league were not played. While we had occasional tricky gusts, it helped that the wind direction was across the field rather than along it and the ball had no significant problem with remaining stationary when needed.

My adult game got played today but as i left a ref turned up for a county cup game with no teams there.

He made a call to be told it was called off yesterday (safety concerns - under 15s) but nobody told him. 60 miles total driven for no good reason.

Nobody called him and the game would have been fine.

Home team were responsible to inform the Referee of the postponement & since they didn’t, he should be entitled to whatever the competition rules say he is able to collect. It may be difficult to obtain directly from the club who are likely to have excuses, in which case he should then direct his query to the CFA. Hope he does something if he wishes to.
