Hi all,

I will be shortly taking the ref course I just wanted to confirm what I will need? I know the instructions say shin pads/boots but is all this required?

Also do most of the facilities have a changing area or will I be expected to be arrive in all my gear.

Thanks

Shinpads is new to me but I presume that's for the practical side of the course. Make sure you have a notebook for any notes you might want to make and bring a pen (or 2!)

hanging rooms will depend on the venue but I would say best thing to do is for the first day, presume they won't be available and if they are you know for the next few.

And lastly a sense of humour and some enthusiasm will make it even better for you!

Packed lunch, drinks, 2 pens or pencils, indoor footwear and football boots, a large notebook, and warm clothing in case the outside sessions are in the rain. Go already dressed for outdoors, if weather not great put a tracksuit or similar on over your kit.
Not sure why they want you to have shinguards as there is no practical game play in the course now.
Most importantly ask lots of questions and get involved. Enjoy!

I did mine last season and we spent virtually a whole day playing football. Unless it’s changed this season, I thought there was still that element.

When I qualified back in 2018 we spent a large portion outside playing while taking turns officiating, but I presume the shinpads are a requirement to avoid any potential issues/injuries.

Mine was 2017, but again we did a fair bit of playing on the final day while everyone took turns to be the referee

The course changed last season. Football matches with learners as players are now not permitted, following guidance from The FA.
Most CFA's use oudoor sessions for whistle usage practice, acting as an AR, and positioning as a referee (with learners causing problems in the "wall" at a free kick, or ahead of a corner kick! )
