Playing and reffing

I’ve just signed myself and a few mates up to a six a side league. Now I’m a referee what should I be careful of when playing (I started refereeing after I stopped playing) in regards to refereeing and also playing. Obviously there’s the obvious stuff about my discipline, but what about other things like my team mates’ discipline which I can’t really control? I’m sure they’ll be fine but just wanna make sure there’s nothing more I can do.

I play six aside most weeks. Just play football. Your team mates arent your responsibility. A lot of the refs know me as a referee and I always try not to undermine them as a more senior referee to them. But thats not to say I dont use my knowledge of the laws to my advantage if I can...

I’m presuming I’m gonna be younger than most refs there. I was thinking about how it could be an advantage 😂 So if one of my players gets sent off that won’t reflect on me? Cheers for the reply

I've haven't played a lot since I started refereeing but one thing has change. I always thought I "read the game" well - a lot of standing around at the back pointing anyway - and now I find it really obvious when a player gets the yellow/red mist - so much more obvious than before!

And, on one hand, I have vastly more sympathy for refs who make an effort, but refs who don't get my goat twice as much now!
