Junior/Youth speaking to 16+ year olds

You were spot on in your wording. Firm, clear and polite. What would the CWO have preferred you say exactly? I cannot see how any of what you said should provide anyone with an issue. Perhaps if players learnt their place in the game a little more and thought through what they said before...

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

Couldn't disagree more. It's all about education at the younger ages. Coaches, more often than not, do not do this, nor do they care. Often, they do not know the Laws themselves and haven't bothered to read up on them, so the ref's role. in these situations, is to calmly and clearly fill that...

    RefChat is now a teenager

It is. I'm just a Level 7 and love it - this place gives me the advice I need as I benefit from everyone's shared experiences. I'd sure be a lonelier grassroots ref without it.

    Sheffield United v Wolves

Yes - he makes contact and it impedes the attacker. Penalty.

    Newcastle Vs Arsenal

Agree. Havertz is endangering another player's safety irrespective of whatever contact is made. He's out of control - it's more than just 'reckless'. The elbow has intent behind it and is premeditated and is VC. The push is a foul, so no goal.

U11's - Direct or Indirect free kicks?

You're right and he's wrong. Up to U10 is mini-soccer and all FKs are direct. U11 and upwards, there's IDFKs and DFKs, so what you gave for the keeper's action was correct. He needs to appreciate his team are U11s now and so the Laws he plays be have altered from last season.

    Slurs and education

Yes - all send offs. No question. Any context.

    Ref assault

As @one says, don't give him the win by letting it turn you away from reffing. We all hope the punishment will be correct.

Disheartening game and a day of two halves

As GraemeS said, he didn't remove his players and his comment about stud marks is irrelevant; tackles are a part of the game and stud markings not always due to a player being fouled. Ignore his comment. If you are under 18 report him to the League Welfare Officer. If he doesn't 'use you...

    Referee v Manager argument

Deal with the manager, absolutely. But not like that. He's lost control of that situation and sets no example as the one supposedly in charge of the game.

BBC News article on Ref abuse

This report highlights an issue which is society's problem - one of our own making. Unpunished abuse is so endemic within the game now nobody blinks when it happens. Players tell refs to 'F off' and berate them for whatever they fancy and they stay on the pitch; I watched Tarkowski doing it...

Thoughts on this, causing some debate.

    Yep. Reckless. Yellow and penalty.

    Done with men’s football

Great view to take @Refollie. I hold to much the same position and, likewise, am not intending to climb any promotion ladders - not sure this makes any difference, tbh. Sin bins and yellows are there to be used, if needed, alongside a stepped approach set out clearly from the outset. Nothing...

New ref - new to the game

What he said. I started at 43 and cover grassroots from U7-U16 and love it. The education element of the game for those boys/girls just starting out is important - refs willing to devote time to this level are to be cherished.

    Goal ?

Not a goal. Whole of the ball over the whole of the line? Don't think so. Looks like a goal from a distance, but isn't on the basis of that still. Harder to call this in real time without tech to support you though.
