    Why?

I’ve played for quite a few clubs over the years and started off as a striker Jimmy Floyd Hassalbaink always scored on his debut and so did I for quite a few years and the name stuck

Fastest double booking for a sub?

not sure if this has popped up here before but... Seems the first yellow is for entering the pitch without permission and the second is for mouthing off about being carded for it If both are actually what happened, it’s correct decision right?!

How many games a weekend do you do?

I started out in September and have been doing one adults Saturday and one Sunday. Was fine til this weekend when the swamps sapped the energy from your legs!

    Reporting Cards

Started in the middle this season and have done around a dozen games so far. Have handed out around 8 or so yellows (no reds... yet) and every single one either the player or manager asked if I’m sending it in and every single time the answer was ‘I wouldn’t have booked them if I wasn’t going to...

    Peeved off Captain

That was my thinking, put down to learning experience and just being that more definitive in handing out appropriate actions!

    Peeved off Captain

so, had a post match incident at a game recently. The captain had been whinging all game but nothing OTT and shook my hand after the final whistle. As the rest of the players were shaking hands I heard the captain say ‘you can take the (opposition teams) shirt off now ref’ in clear hearing...

    Setting out the stall

When I Talked to each team, it was under a minute, I made it clear I was here to enforce the rules and then made it clear that I expect people to respect my decisions across the game, regardless of the context and outcome. I reiterated I would not tolerate any abuse in my direction and no...

    Setting out the stall

So, I'm now 5 games in and am starting to get a bit of continuity in the matches. After a couple of players continually questioning decisions in my first two games, I've started introducing myself to each team individually before the games and telling them what I will and won't allow, in...

    (Another) first game

I'm 100% of the opinion that it's a learning curve that I'm at the very start of. After playing for so long, trying to differentiate myself from that mind set is something I've been thinking about and trying to get my head around, but I don't think for a second it'll happen overnight, his month...

    (Another) first game

This is a league I've played in for 20 years, have seen a countless number of unnecessary red and yellow cards, and I've seen teams fold hand over foot because of reactions to decisions that could have been made in error. I know how much of a decline the sport is seeing in my local leagues and...

    (Another) first game

Thanks all for the comments, certainly seems to have provoked a response and opinions differ from person to person so that's exactly what I'm trying to learn and gain judgement with! I think I should clear up a little on the first game, first of all it was a fairy open high tempo, end to end...

    (Another) first game

had my first game yesterday in Bristol, all things considered I thought it went quite well! I have a broken toe (from the refs course, over enthusiastic 14 year old slid in on me knees first), with a groin strain too (hence why I'm now in black instead of playing) Game passes by without any...

Shiny new ref (as of yesterday)

Cheers all, I'm down in the South West, doesn't seem to be too many people taking up the mantle in this neck of the woods so should be fun seeing where I end up. Now onwards to buying a kit, seems a large men's is the holy grail unless I want to fork out £75 odd for the full set!

Shiny new ref (as of yesterday)

Thought I'd better join up as I've spent 20 years criticising the profession and have finally took the plunge and finished the course last weekend. I'm sure I'll be hunting around for answers and guidance amongst the wealth of knowledge floating around here!
