    Violent Conduct?

just to clarify this 'excessive force' thing- that ONLY applies when you are grading the severity of a tackle. Careless, Reckless and Excessive Force are the words you use to judge whether a card is required for a foul you have given, when the ball is involved. Violent Conduct is something...

The correct decision over the right decision.

but he can use his body to shield the ball, and his arms can be out for balance ;)

    Junior/Youth Down the academy

He's clearly doing outside lefts ;)

The correct decision over the right decision.

I agree completely, however in the example given in the first post I would argue that this ISN'T handball. The player is making himself bigger to shield the ball from the opponent, not to try and deliberately trap the ball with his hand. He hasn't deliberately made contact with the ball, nor...

Recovering from "one of those games..."

get home, have a shower. next step- I have a book that I record all my appointments in and keep scorecards and team sheets- each game I will make sure I write 2-3 positives and 2-3 negatives from each match, and have an 'aim' for next week. its very anal, it feels a little like homework, but...

    ball inspection

Perhaps a little tongue in cheek, but yeah you can't argue with a pressure gauge. If you've got one, use it and be comfortable in the knowledge that your ball is good :) Pure laziness that means that if it feels okay to play with to me, then in my mind its probably okay to play with! ;) But...

Junior/Youth First game done, lesson learned.

hi andy, welcome to the site. from what you say, it doesn't sound like your first game was bad at all, so well done on that front :) substitutions- I assume this is roll on roll off in your league from what you describe? even so, I would always make sure that when I speak to the managers...

    ball inspection

look (no bits hanging off, leather intact, round) feel and squeeze (little bit of give between the fingers and thumb) bounce and do a few kick ups (if it hurts my toe, let some air out) good to go!

Game of two halves- a report on todays game

Dan, Charlie, Mick: Thanks guys, some really sound advice there that seems to make a lot of sense. :) Arran: thanks fella, nice to know its not just me! ;) refereeing can be a lonely game, especially if you get something wrong! comforting to know others are in similar boats! Paul: like you...

Game of two halves- a report on todays game

My Questions are this: 1. Could/should I do anything about the manager of Blacks after the game? Didn't say anything at the time or after but know I should have done. What about the other dissent I got from the decision? 2. First challenge- bookings for both players to set my stall out? 3...

Game of two halves- a report on todays game

Very disappointed with my game today. Excuse the size of the post but I feel like I need to unload. Had been given a cup Quarter Final and was looking forward to it for a few weeks. Turned up at the ground, looked smart, did my regulars e.g. inspection, meet and greet gaffers. All going...

    Penalty shootout question

do you not reduce the number of kickers on Team A in line with Team B (i.e. number 11 A's kick is discounted)? this would seem the logical way and is probably the way I would deal with it... not right by Law I imagine, but right by the spirit of the game ;)

    To Quick!

I see what youre saying, but in my opinion its a straight red card because you haven't finished issueing the caution yet and therefore it is still part of the same incident. e.g. if someone committed a reckless challenge and then punched someone, you wouldn't bother with the YC before you...

    To Quick!

You would show straight Red Card as when two fouls are committed simultaneously you punish the worse. :)

Open Age Denial of Goalscoring Opportunity?

its Denying Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity (DOGSO) and therefore a Red Card and IDFK (unless outside box, in which case DFK and RC). im sure the wording is something like "denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity by committing an offence punishable by DFK or IDFK". so i think it is RC...
