Ref across different FA/League

Hi all,

Newly qualified trainee here.

Looking to do my 5 games to become a qualified Level 7.

A question I have is that im registered in my parent FA (BBFA) & would like to ref in a particular Hampshire FA league occasionally as well as some leagues within BBFA too, how would I go about doing this? Would it be just as simple as emailing the ref sec of the league or do I need to make people aware in my parent FA?

Presumably you’re on or close to the border anyway?

It’s fine to do so. Up here in the northern reaches of BBFA we’ve got referees working the Bedfordshire leagues too so you wouldn’t be an outlier in that regard.

Contacting the Hants league officer is the way to go to get them. The only notification you’ll to make is when you’re recording the games to get passed properly. And then again if you decide to go through the progression pathway when you submit your games.

The other thing to note in that case is that County FA borders don’t always reflect the administrative counties, with some teams falling under a different FA. BBFA cups includes teams in Shrivenham for example and that’s in Oxfordshire!

I initially stayed with BBFA before moving to Middlesex FA where I done games in the Surrey Youth League.

It is very common, especially in places like London where a referee registered in London could be refereeing games in Middlesex, Essex, Herts, Kent, Surrey or the non-geographical AFA.

The only real rule is that you must register with the county that has control of the area you live, but even then there are some overlapping county boundaries.

I am registered with Birmingham FA but referee across the West Midlands (Staffordshire, Shropshire etc). As long as all the stuff they need from you goes to the right county, it's really not that big of a deal. I personally chose to register with BCFA for the better development opportunities, despite the fact I live in Staffs (although my postcode sort of overlaps the boundary a bit so that was another reason).
