Glad to see Atwell caution both Rogers and James for that corner kick shenanigans...
But next time, let it go and just give the free kick or penalty.

My question is, why Rogers wasn't on a yellow already for shoving Cucurella to the ground? Should have been his second yellow of the game.

Otherwise I think Atwell had a good game until the 70th minute, where he was consistent in having a high threshold for a yellow for both teams, but then he went off the boil and started giving yellows that shouldn't based on how he was officiating the game before.

I forgot about that.
I di think Cucurella made a meal of it though (was it enough of a push to fall back like he did to hit the ground or was that more for effect?) but nevertheless, an easy yellow.

Fair. Didn't read past section 1 which says the VAR may act on direct red card offences, it then limits them to the below in section 2.

From this if the VAR picked up OFFINABUS language they aren't allowed to act on it? Only specified OFFINABUS actions as reviewable.

c. Direct red cards (not second yellow card/caution)

  • DOGSO (especially position of offence and positions of other players)
  • serious foul play (or reckless challenge)
  • violent conduct, biting or spitting at another person
  • using offensive, insulting or abusive action(s)
