I understand Admins have a hard job keeping the foum civil.

May I suggest instead of closing the entire threads, ban the offenders or delete theirb post. Closing the entire thread punishes those who make senseable contribution.

Send the player(s) off instead abandoning the game please.

Depends which one exactly you are referring to...

If someone wants to open a thread and some how keep the topics off playing until Liverpool score and indirectly wishing a colleague takes a long time to recover having cast doubts on their injury in the first place you are more than welcome to.

Sounds like lots to debate in the game so we're happy to have one running, but it needs to be focussed solely only on the refereeing incidents and not based on big club bias and indirectly wishing colleagues unwell.

One football game has resulted in two members receiving a two week ban. We really couldn't be any more clear, if you post as a fan you will get a ban and the posts will be deleted. If people aren't capable of posting rationally when their own team is involved I'd strongly suggest they don't post in relation to that game, or at least wait until the following day when they are less emotional.

I do understand the point about just deleting the posts and leaving the thread open, but that isn't always possible. If there are only a small number of posts it is easier just to nip it in the bud and close there and then, or if we have got there late it has sometimes already spiralled out of control and we have no option but to close.

I don’t get what’s wrong with the Brentford Liverpool post. Seemed balanced to me and was good commentary on some really interesting top flight refereeing.

The topics raised, especially about timekeeping and TV not showing important info (we didn’t see the GK count, or a good freeze frame on the line for the penalty), also on the stadium fan experience, and the missed penalty (I also think the VVD elbow should have been a penalty).

So what was the problem with the thread?

@JamesL has already said. Take your pick from referring to a play until Liverpool score conspiracy, suggesting the referee wasn't really injured, hoping he takes a long time to recover, suggesting the officials were doing all that they can to get Liverpool to equalise, referring to big team bias, suggesting the referees were deliberately giving decisions to appease fans.

It just comes across as a fan post and has no place on a refereeing forum. It wasn't actually me that closed it, but that's only because two other mods got to the posts before I saw them.

I didn’t read it like that at all. Sometimes we see different things.

So, the mods rightfully deleted the post(s), rightfully gave the offernder(s) a holiday. Why close the thread?

On this occasion the thread was closed last night..then someone who was involved with the closed thread started a new one hence why I closed it straight away given the nature of the opening post.

As I have said earlier in this thread, feel free to open a new thread and have a sensible debate about the game. We don't want the debate to go down the context of the opening post so it will be better if a new thread was started. Leaving the existing thread helps ppl see what is and isn't acceptable when deciding what/if to post..

I get this is very the few spoiling it for the many, but I don't think we can have been any clearer on fan posts, today and in the past. Please don't take it personally.
