Unless the comments are of a discriminatory nature I really don’t think the officials should be getting involved. Whilst not pleasant, the nature of the beast means at senior levels you are going to cop grief from the crowd, if the game is stopped every time a bit of low level abuse is shouted no game would ever complete.

I'm sorry but I disagree, in the strongest way, with accepting referee abuse as part of the game and something that has to be ignored, even if it is 'mild' abuse. We are where we are now because too many referees have ignored it. We can't have it both ways. We reap what we saw.
I agree at grass roots, but when it is paying spectators it becomes impossible to manage. What do you do, chuck 30,000 people out of Old Trafford because they are shouting abuse at Michael Oliver?
A level 4 referee from London stopped a step 5 game after a spectator gave him grief, that was his last ever game as a referee. Like it or not you need a thick skin if you are going into the semi-pro game and above, less grief from players but you will inevitably cop abuse from the crowd.
Maybe this is just an English thing, but my best mates call me a knobhead. It's not going to upset me to the point of stopping a football match to get a spectator booted out. If the sad little men (or women, as I experienced a delightful lady recently at a step 2 club) think that paying their £10 entitles them to be able to shout whatever they want and they get some satisfaction out of doing so, then what a sad life they lead, but let them crack on.
If, however, it's of a discriminatory nature, that's a different kettle of fish.
Tough spot for the ref though. Step 6, so his AR could be any age / level. Not sure what I'd do if my AR called me over and said 'this guy has called me a knobhead and unless he's ejected, I'll be going home'.

Horrendous position to be in.
Completely understand why the vast majority of people would ignore the comment. But we only have ourselves to blame. Abuse is abuse. Regardless of whether its mild or harsh. Probably reflects society pretty accurately as well.
Interestingly............. if someone called someone on here a knobhead, in a non-jokey manner, would a blind eye be turned to this?

The ref in the op did his bit, i do my bit, and hope other refs who are experienced and can actually manage a game do theirs, so that we don't lose referees who are not as experienced to the game. And hopefully threads on referee abuses and 'I have had enogh' on this forum become a thing of the past. I can oly try and hope.
@RefereeX, I doubt the spectators in the OP was as effectionate to the ref as your best mates are to you.
I made that part of the comment in jest, but the rest applies. As @RustyRef says, where do you draw the line? Because you're not going to stop a game at old trafford and have 45000 people kicked out. At what level do we draw the line to make paying spectators culpable for their (non discriminatory) actions?
(Note, I consider this totally different to parents / spectators at a grass roots game)
It's a noble idea to suggest that no referee should ever be subjected to it, but it's just not realistic.
I'm assuming, based upon the badge, he has operated in the middle at this level within the last 2-3 years, possibly.
Or has gained the badge through some other means...

In isolation, this seems like an overreaction to a fairly mild insult. Maybe there had been previous abuse from the spectator(s) and this was the straw that broke the camel's back?
I wouldn't be looking to have a spectator removed from the ground unless it was a) persistent to the point where it's affecting the AR's ability to do their job, b) threatening, or c) discriminatory.

I am going to sit on the fence with this one because I can see both sides of the coin. However, it appears from the clip that they have identified who the individual is, whereas in most cases, this is not the case.

^^^^^^The lino is no Spring chicken and needs to grow a pair!! Difficult position he's put his referee in there. He should be asking the referee to report it after the match and nothing more.
But to be honest - if my AR said that to me and added "or else I'm going home" then I'd likely say Okay then mate - that's your call! - safe journey home!!"
I'd then get on with the game (with one AR and one CAR).

Yes, but a 3W could still be a L5/6/7 in the men's game and therefore be AR on a Step 6 fixture.
You're not wrong but in the context of the post I was replying to he is, potentially, an equivalent level of the ref, albeit in a different pathway.
