What do you say when 2 players at a corner kick are having a Argy bargy in the penalty box as the kick is waiting to be taken.

I see refs go in talk to the players involved, but what do you say?

Thanks

At the first corner of every game, I give a loud "nothing silly" warning. If I still spot something, I'll actually shout the players' numbers and tell them I'm watching. Any more, and I'll make the necessary decision(s) when the ball comes in. I rarely have to get to that point. I have never had to do it twice in the same game. If you are proactive with this, most players will be smart enough to listen.

I just say "I'm watching, nothing silly guys" at the first corner or set piece. That fires the warning, if they are stupid enough to do anything silly they have been warned.

Mantaining discipline is the main tone you need to set. Getting to them again will get a harsher calling out or a one on one verbal warning to get the message stated. Anything further after that will come into your own hands to take action.

I used to say that, then thought, what if I miss something, the players will use it against me, I said I'm watching but missed maybe an obvious pull as I was looking at a different area. Tend just to say 'nothing silly, nice and tidy' now, maybe 'end of the half so let's get there with nothing silly' etc.

For me pull them in. Tell them to think about what they are doing. Remind the defender they could give away a penalty. Remind attacker they might spoil their attacking opportunity and to pack it in.

Same for me, almost word for word until a couple of years ago, when a smarta55 attacker replied "I'll take my chances". Now I just change "might" with "much more likely" just to balance a pen against a defensive FK.

*points to VEO* “You’re on camera, is this really how you want to behave? No, it’s not. Cut it out.”

“Anyone come to watch you guys today? Yeah? They’ve come to watch you play football not behave this, so just play football alright?”
(Make sure they do actually have people watching them lol)

“[number of defender] you’re risking a penalty kick and [number of attacker] you’re risking a goal getting chalked off, it’s not worth the risk for either of you, but it out.”

“[number of defender] you’re risking a penalty kick and [number of attacker] you’re risking a goal getting chalked off, it’s an important game/semi-final/final/grand final. It’s not worth the risk for either of you, cut it out.”

“I don’t mind what you do in your own time but you’re not hugging on my field. Cut it out.”

Don’t give me a decision to make if you might not like the answer.
I use this with two variations with a bit of Fifa fingers and as quickly as possible. The first I “learnt” this year as AR from two rapidly progressing great refs. Something like:

- For attacker-goalkeeper nonsense - you can be there but if you move to block the GK you’re asking me to make a decision; and GK, if you push him you’re asking me to make a decision.

- Player-on-player nonsense - be smart in the box, you don’t want to spoil a goal or give away a penalty.

…normally I find it’s attackers that initiate nonsense and really I’m really pro-actively pre-selling a defensive DFK. One warning early in the match is usually enough to get the corners “clean”. Very few DFKs and zero pens this season at corners.

Most recently I've just said 'dont make it easy for me to blow this whistle as the ball comes in'. Both can read in to that whatever they want to.

"Nothing stupid please Gents - when that ball comes in if I see it I WILL give it!".
