They're pushing every angle of referee errors, but not once ever hitting out on cheats.

You're probably right that we shouldn't debate this further.
All I'll say is that just because there is a sequence of events with a given outcome, doesn't mean cause and effect is related. Just the same way in which removing any of the events or changing the sequence doesn't mean the outcome won't be the same.

Correct. Which is why the forest situation is a coincidence, not a cause.
I think we agree that 5hit happens, and that the "delay flag" protocol didn't cause the injury. My point is the injury was avoidable in the specific circumstances and wouldn't have occurred with a different protocol.

I am saying that the media, and armchairs alike, are saying its an officiating error that caused this.
But not once do the media, and armchairs alike, criticise the cheating that goes on, the conning of officials etc.

No reason to be re-writing the LOTG or changing PGMOL protocol though - since they're not connected to what happened.
It is just bad luck, nothing more than that. There was a very tight offside call against a forest player yesterday where AR Akil Howson delayed the flag until the attack broke down when he raised it. It could have just as easily been this incident where a player hit the post as instead of the previous week, just luck of the draw.
We've had VAR in the EPL for 6 seasons, that's 2,267 games of which delayed flags in 2,266 of them didn't cause a serious injury. That equates to a 0.044% chance of a delayed flag contributing to a serious injury, hardly worth ripping up the laws and starting again based on that likelihood. Many more players have been injured by sliding off the pitch at grounds like Old Trafford where there is a steep bank, but I don't hear the media clamouring for that to be fixed.
