Is it my imagination or are more kids getting the laws of the game from TikTok etc…..
I hear it more and more “they aren’t on the pitch ref….i can KO right?”
I calmly reply “not without me blowing my whistle and stop getting stupid ideas off the internet.”

Anyone else get this?

The Ref Stop
I had one recently that thought they could kick off because all the opposition players were celebrating in their opponents' half. They must have seen one of those viral clips of all players celebrating in their OWN half and thought they were the same thing

Yup. I happen to have seen the clip where they explain that in the World Cup, another player pushes a player onto the pitch during the celebration in order to prevent it. It’s such nonsense. Can you imagine a ref blowing for KO without any of the players on the pitch?

A couple of times in my career I've had youth teams (u14/15) try to kick off after a goal because they are back ready in position, even though the opposition are still celebrating.

I just blow the whistle to stop them, and inform them that they need to wait for my restart whistle. I think sometimes they must see it online, or even make it up to maybe try and catch a referee out. Won't work with me though, unfortunately for them.

Just slow things down, let it all settle and off we go again.

There was a similar incident in the Championship, Millwall vs Sheffield Wednesday. Millwall scored but didn’t realise the referee had disallowed it. Wednesday took a quick free kick with most Millwall players off the pitch celebrating and, despite Wednesday nearly making a complete pigs ear of a 5 on 1 attack they eventually scored. Falls under brave or foolish refereeing, delete as appropriate 😂

There was a player losing his head at me recently because the opposition goalkeeper drop kick was finishing outside his box. E.g, he would run forward with ball in hand, as he was level with 18 yard box he would release the ball with forward momentum.

A short time after that video a YouTube short (probably a rehashed tiktok) said GK secret laws. The video was full of nonsense. Such as you can't flykick outside the box.

Tough one. If he disallowed it for offside, there is no need for a wait for whistle restart so yeah in theory they can take a quick free kick. Not sure I would allow one, but is there a reason not to?

No. Not in the LOTG anyway.

I wouldn't be allowing it though.

Similar to a DFK within shooting distance and the defending GK is busy lining up their wall etc. - if an attacker asks me if they can take it quickly in order to catch them out, the answer is always "no" from me. More trouble than it's worth.

Sometimes doing what the game expects is the best thing ... ;)

With a direct free kick….once they ask for a wall, then i tell the attacking team to wait for my whistle.
I won’t have a wall being set up and catch the keeper off guard.

A similar situation is when you point the wrong direction for a free kick. All the defenders run upfield. The attackers are arguing with you how is this their free kick. Then you realise you pointed the wrong direction and you correct it and let everyone know.
Now the attackers want to take it quick before the defenders make their way back. Nothing in law stops them from doing it but allowing it equals loss of match control. Most of us (or at least me) have learnt this the hard way.
