Had a few whines about hands in the back at throw ins during a U16's match.

From my POV, I seen various hands on the back of the person in front but it didn't seem impactful on the individual. I could of blew at every throw in for hands up if that was the case?

I'm only knew to this so would you expect people to be stood with their hands down as they challenge for a throw in?

You've seen football and played it before, right?

There's 'spotting' an opponent - the arm out, touch opponent, judge your distance, jump for the header... and there's a shove in the back.

"Normal touch" / "Not a push" / "Expected contact" take your pick

Simply having hands in the back is not an offence. After all, football is a contact sport. If the arm in the back is a push, then you’ve got grounds to punish.

Best thing to be is proactive. Make sure you get an angle side on, near to where the drop zone will be.

‘Nothing silly’ or words to that affect can do wonders. The players just knowing you’re near and watching can change things immensely.

Laws of the Game define "careless". Was it a careless push?

I think your difficulty is selling the decision because you are new. My reply is "hands in the back is not necessarily a foul".

On a related matter, in general i dont like the word "impactful". "Careless" is already defined and can be used in most cases.

Is a push that is careless but not impactful a foul?

How about a push that is not careless but impactful?

It just mddles things up.

Thanks for the replies everyone, it's just as I seen it on Sunday but I'll definitely be more vocal on why it's not a foul
