If you have to stop play to issue a sin bin, what is the correct restart? LOTG says IDFK but is it from where play was stopped or where the offence took place?

The Ref Stop
Correct, IDFK. And where theboffence took place (this would be where the offender was for dissent).

As a side note, they have made the laws consistent now for position of restart for offences being the location of the offence. With the exception of offence being outside the field of play or in the goal area.

Dropped ball location can get a little confusing but that is not a restart for an offence.

Or in the PA for DFK offences

So for all offences on fop the restart is at the location of the offending player?

From the point of the offence. Subtly different

For example, if an offender throws something then the restart is where the object strikes or would have struck an opponent.
So could that not be interpreted to mean that the IDFK is take from where the referee is stood if a play says something worthy of Dissent.

The offence takes place in the same place except one is physical and one is verbal.

I hate the LOTG sometimes🙄😂.

No. All verbal offences occur where the offender is as that is where the offence is being committed.

Maybe, using a physical offence wasn't the best example. 🤦🏻

Don't do that on here mate -@JamesL does too much thinking as it is. ;)👀:D

The offence was the gobbing off which took place from where the player was stood, not from where the ref heard/saw it.

Do you have a link to this from the LOTG at all? I've been searching for it, but can't find it.

Some club have given me an awful mark because I did this in a game, and as I usually get on with them quite well, just wanted to send them the law.

The reason for stopping play is the dissent, which is an offence, so the restart is from the point where the dissent occurred.
To put this into context, if play is in the home penalty area and you see a home player punch an opponent in the centre circle, the restart is in the centre circle.

It is a dead thread but the question deserves an answer. I think the question was the method of restart.

Look up law 12.2 third bullet point.

One of my most enjoyable days in grassroots was the Sunday where a GK decided to scream dissent at me from his Penalty Area, whilst I was in the Centre Circle and his team were on a Promising Attack. Loud whistle blast and an IFK 50 yards back that the opposition scored from :D

Pre sin bin days unfortunately ....
