Main thoughts are ref did well, but I think was a bit lenient with the cards at the start of the match with some crunching tackles going in.

Question about the handball penalty. What’s the difference here compared to the United one which wasn’t given?
Also if it is given then surely is DOGSO and a red card?

The handball pen was fair enough. The laws support a red but it certainly would have been beyond unfair to Romero. Nketiahs tackle on the GK could have easily been a red too. So I guess the Rob Jones go easy approach had one each way.

I think the difference was Webb telling the refs mid week that the United one is a pen and don't make that mistake again.

Surely the red is mandatory

He didn't even give a yellow!
Contrary to law they don't give a yellow for SPA-Handball in the EPL if a penalty is given, think UEFA have also adopted that policy now as well.

So it's a red for DOGSO-HB or just a penalty.

So they can just do a suarez?

Is that not what this was? Don't see any other outcome than a goal. Keepers gone the other way. Other defenders not close enough
I think it was hitting Bissouma. If you watch the VAR replays I'm pretty sure they cleared up the handball quickly, and were then trying to find angles to see where the ball was going. It wasn't obvious enough for me to be DOGSO.

I've always rated Rob Jones, he's the best referee I've seen in the Championship for a long time. His performance today probably means he will now regularly get the big games alongside Taylor and Oliver.

This. There was a defender well placed on the line and the ball was headed in that direction in my opinion that just about saves red card.

I walked in the pub as the Arsenal penalty handball happened, said hello to a couple of mates, waited at the bar, got served, carried drinks to the table, went for a pee, popped outside to say hi to a mate who was having a fag, sat down, had a couple of sips and it still hadn't been awarded. Must drive you absolutely bonkers at a match. Glad my team is total bobbins and we aren't saddled with it yet. 😆

Nketiah's challenge looked wild to me. Lucky lad. :redcard:

Always rated Rob Jones, seems a confident and likeable chap as well. Does this annoying thing of pointing to the spot where a foul happened, rather than the direction. Dunno why, just bothers me a little. Was a couple of times - and admittedly, I was only half-watching - where I genuinely didn't know what he'd given cos he was pointing at the grass 10 yards away after an aerial challenge or players grappling.
