Is that the right thing though? Shouldn't we be staying with the original decision?
No, we have to go with the judgement made on the basis of the VAR technology as currently configured. What is being said here is that the technology, with its in-built margin of error allowed for, cannot be deemed to have established conclusively which one of the players is closer to the end line than the other. As I understand it, the decision is then that they are considered functionally level - and level is onside.

I was able to watch on a legal replay stream in the US (thanks, Peacock!!)

But in all seriousness, this has to be a red card. It’s the literal embodiment of the “push, pull, or hold” in Law 12. We would all fail an assessment if we didn’t give a red here.
Well I think I'd be failing, because I'm not seeing a red in that. I can see he goes with his left hand as Zaha turns, but thinks better of it. Nothing else there for me.

Are you not giving a penalty either?

I reckon Zaha was looking for it, but I'm going with a penalty, but not a red.

The pen I'd be content to give, the red I'd need more convincing of, especially on a Saturday afternoon on a muddy field in Somerset.

What sanction would you go with, if any? And why?

If you are calling a foul, it HAS to be a red. It’s a DOGSO with a pull. If it’s not a red, it’s incorrect in Law. It’s 6-8 yards from goal with a good angle on the keeper. If that isn’t an obvious goal scoring opportunity, what is?

It would take massive, massive guts to not call that a foul. I know Zaha has something of a reputation, so it’s not out there f possibility that he would go down a bit easily.

Because I don't think it's a pull. It the contact with the the thigh, exactly as it says on the commentary.

I think you'd only be considering that with the benefit of a replay. Not sure you be picking that level of detail 'live'. You be looking at the holistic attempt.

Were the actions a genuine attempt to play the ball? 50/50 but I'd probably give the benefit of the doubt to the defender given that I'm definitely awarding a penalty.

Plus it seems common and accepted practice at the top levels to deem it to be a challenge for the ball unless it very obviously isn't. If the legs are close together, as they were here, they always seem to go caution.
