Wet Games

Hi All,

Very sorry that this may be repeating some threads that have been on before but what does everyone else use during the games when it's bucketing down?

I ask because I did a game before lockdown and got really wet through with my match record being saturated, The only good thing was the fact that the cautions were easy to remember and their was no dismissals.

I've looked around but can't seem to find much.

The Referee Store
go to Amazon and you can find waterproof paper notebooks and "space pens" that can even write when completely underwater. I bought both a couple of years ago after a totally drenching game. Not very expensive.

If your league allows you to just take player numbers, write-on cards or card skins with a sharpie are the best solution. I've even kept a goal tally along the top of my yellow card on occasions, which does scare players when you pull the yellow out after a goal, but is better than losing count!

Might just start using a red card for this for sh**s and giggles

It isn't leagues that can and can't decide on taking names or numbers, it is an FA requirement that below step 2 names must be taken and the correct cautioning technique used. Granted, that can only really be enforced at L5 and below if you are going for promotion and therefore getting observed, but I know of referees that have ended up in hot water because they have kept submitting the wrong names for cautions. Using the excuse that the team sheet was wrong won't wash as you are required to take the name as well as the number.

Obviously that is easier said than done when it is pelting down and your notebook paper has turned to pulp, but I'd still ask for the name so that I can at least think that it doesn't sound right when I compare to team sheets later.

There. Fixed it.

I would argue getting into any conversation with a player who has or about to be send off, in many cases, is incorrect.

Where can I pick up write on cards?

A conversation no, but a simple "come here please, what's you're name, I'm sending you off for x/y/z" has never caused issues for me.
