Matteo Guendouzi will face no further action over Neal Maupay incident

I feel the ref could have defused that, three of them certainly could
They are not going to get smacked in the face
The only get out for standing back would be if the appropriate sanctions were forthcoming
None

perfectly acceptable to have a mass brawl on the football pitch now.

The Referee Store
I don't know which is worse, referee seeing a player grabbed by the throat and doing nothing about it, or the fox in charge of the hen-house being unashamed of taking no action.

I can only assume that the referee said in his report that he saw it and took no action, as that would prevent any retrospective action from being taken.

How is VAR factored into this? I would presume those officials saw the incident even if the on-field officials didn't. Would this prevent retrospective action being taken?

The simple fact is, amateur footballers copy behaviour that is deemed acceptable at the top level, whether it be dissent, abuse or VC

I don't know, and can VAR take action after the final whistle has been blown?

I’m having a beer tonight in a hotel in Bury St Edmunds and I could have sorted that situation in 10 seconds, weak refereeing, incompetent review and no action taken.
i’d of had that sorted at the Dog & Duck why are the top boys ducking their responsibilities!

Because in the Dog and Duck League you don’t have a situation where you have a dozen cameras following every move and the (so called) ability to have retrospective sanctions issued if the referee takes no action.

The protocols that govern referees at the top level are fundamentally broken around retrospective action and whether the referee had seen/acted on the incident or not.

Indeed, it should not matter one jot whether the referee had 'seen it' or not.....

When he stands there like a stuffed prune and let’s confrontations happen then he’s not doing his job. Again VAR had a chance to actually do good and again failed miserably... what’s the point of them apart from drawing pathetic incorrect lines and looking for sh1t that isn’t there and ignoring stuff that is!

does it matter if there is a dive? Not really, it will be picked up during the week
Does it matter if there is a rammy? No, a panel will look at that also
Heck, dont even need to give goals now

any point those highly paid elite athletes even turning up?

bewildering

I agree with you. I think the system that they operate in is flawed and geared towards the authorities trying to keep the players on the pitch as much as possible because they are the ones the fans turn up to see.

And although it is made to look different the 'independent' referees, selectors and the organisation is paid by the league who makes money not necessarily by getting fair outcomes.

The wholes process is riddled with conflict of interest and that's the reason behind my reference to fox guarding the henhouse.

Not sure the fans turn up to see the player that's just had a ban retrospective or not. They pay to see their team, I'll give you they want the strongest but half will reckon the banned player is the lynchpin of the team, half will reckon no loss because he's a tosser.
