First pre season game - new laws some thoughts

So did my first pre season middle today.

Few thoughts on it and the law changes.

1) only once in the game did either GK play a short ball from a goal kick, which was received inside the 18. The rest of the time, the receiver was happy to let it leave the box.
2) management of having no attackers within 1m of the defensive wall when 3 or more in it, added a few extra seconds to give a warning, but was easy to do
3) 1 caution in the game, to a member of the coaching team. Having a more clear set of criteria and sanctions is better as the offense committed would have just been a "no more" one previously, having that yellow card option will definitely be a benefit.
4) had no sin bins or handball today, so no comments on that.
5) dropped ball caused the most confusion. Red in possession when I stopped play for an injury and the red player couldn't quite grasp I was going to drop it to him and he should then play on. Apparently it would be more simple if I gave the ball to the opponent, who could then kick it back to them. He also asked if he had to pass it to them, so they could kick it back....

All in all, no complaints so far

5) Likewise, I couldn't do anything about players kicking it back to the opposition despite discussing DBs before KO

As I said before, I suspect it's going to take a season or so for players to get used to this one. I also think it's incumbent on referees as the on-field "guardians" of the laws to take reasonable steps to ensure that players are fully aware of what the new law entails.

I think it's entirely reasonable to do as the referees have done in all the games I've seen on TV where the new laws are in force, which is to explain clearly to the player the ball is dropped to and any nearby opponents, what the law now says, prior to each dropped ball. After a relatively short while, players will get the drift but until they do, I feel it's going to be necessary to keep explaining it each and every time rather than just once, before the game..

Out of curiosity, when booking a member of the coaching staff does that just go into Wholegame as if it were a player?
