First goal, simple schoolboy mistake by the officials. This is the stuff you tell first year referee to look for at a corner when opponents are on the goalkeeper.

Particularly when it's the first corner of the day - I'd be dying for an opportunity to give a defensive FK and set out my stall early on. Really bad one to miss.

I keep saying it, mindful that it won't make me very popular on a referees' forum, but the standard of officiating in football at all levels is poor.
Just to clarify that whilst there's huge variance between individuals (and I'm exempt from the overall judgement), we see awful blunders routinely everywhere, every weekend at all levels
I believe that the following are true;
The LOTG should be uncomplicated (as football expects)
The LOTG are amateurish, disjointed and painfully misunderstood
Referees at the top level are now paralysed by commercial pressures (not to send off)
VAR is just an extension of this overall farce
I could go on....
Point being, that we are all part of this system. We are all failures as a group, not necessarily as individuals. The standard of officiating in football is inferior to all other sports

We hear ye bro!!! :smoke::smoke:

Watch Marriner on the replays, he put his whistle near his mouth then decided no. He definitely saw something but wasn't sure.

Let's not kid ourselves...
The Man Utd thing during the week. A half, maybe 2/3 of the forum goes one way, the rest the other. What chance have the fans and pundits got? It's pitiful
I've always watched football at ALL levels. Sometimes refs look comfortable, but frequently they're really not very good. This news might tread on most people's toes, but we're all part of the same shambles (not necessarily of our own making). It's only since qualifying that this has bothered me. As a player, I just accepted the fact that refs were generally inconsistent, but now I realise that it's the governing bodies (IFAB and FIFA) at fault
