Last minute Brawl

Had a cracking game today. 5 red cards!

1 was a kick.
2 were for stupid second yellows.
2 were for the brawl.

Away team scored a last minute winner. Club assistant raised for offside after they had scored. It wasn't offside. Had to keep my nerve there.

Then after the restart.... Player ran like 10 meters and did a two footed lunge.... Then the brawl.

Was interesting to watch. Managers and subs.... Was quite something.

After that calmed down, sent off the lungee and another for punching.

Dramatic end! Have contacted my FA to see what I need to do about the report, waiting on their reply :)

Best thing was.... After the game the players said I had a good game despite the drama and reds! Result!

Had the assistants been giving offsides right through the game ?

No, but there were two defending players on the goal line. It was obvious because I was in a position to see both the action and the assistant, it was just an attempt to make me think about giving it. The team soon stopped their protests after they knew I wasn't going to be fooled.

There were no complaints by players or manager after the final whistle.

do you ask you car for offside, i am glad we are not allowed to in scotland, asking for trouble

Obvious offsides

You can often tell if someone is offside and I'll instinctively look at the CAR.

I tell them both and the captains at the beginning of the match I will happily overrule them if I know for certain that they are not offside. So many flag for offside when the ball goes to someone who was onside or if the player isn't interfering etc.

God I hate those last minute brawls. At least if it happens during the game players and coaches can (hopefully) have time to come to their senses before the final whistle. Those last minute ones just become messy.

With CARs stick to ball in and out of play and never give them any reason whatsoever to flag for any offside. I like that you talk to them with the captains in attendance, that is a very wise move.
Even with ball in or out of play, you'll unlikely get a CAR moving anywhere near a goal line to give an informed decision and even a throw in is more than likely dubious based on a shout from his own manager on the touch lines.
When I have to ask for a CAR, I cling to the hope that one side will show the slightest doubt about providing one. That gives me with the ideal opportunity to go ahead without them because a team isn't able to provide a nominee.

I once gave a 93rd minute penalty, it was the final seconds and it was 3-2. It was a blatant hand ball pen but it had been a tasty game throughout. I was expecting a mass brawl etc as it was one of those Alamo, 10 player kicking it 2 yards pinball situations. To my shock they were all that knackered and into the last minute fun the penalty was greeted with hardly a whimper. You can never predict when they will happen, any tackle, and minute. Had quite a few over the years!

I was AR (U23s) and we had a last minute 'brawl'. Player (cautioned) who committed the initial foul (in front of benches typically!) came up to us afterwards and said he was a qualified ref and that he would have sent himself off for the foul!

I have to assume he didn't say this at the time.
