Played advantage, sending off

The Referee Store
You must be joking

Im not joking no, im throwing it out there as to what sort of comments would see a player go into the bin.

Can you put a player in the bin and caution him, if not then it has to be mild dissent fora sin bin offence.

It's more than a bit outdated. Has sh!t in the same category as ****er, cheat in the same as sod off, F*ck as wholly in the red category but whore and slut in the orange areas. In fairness I can remember seeing this come out a long time ago, perhaps 15 to 20 years, and times have changed since then.
What in the latest chart RR, what’s on the rise, what’s ok? Is ginger now a thing? 😂

Apart from c u next Tuesday, racial abuse and cheat, what else would you guys send someone off for?

Let's be honest, you see Prem refs ignore players telling them to fack off all the time... Tbh they seem to ignore most foul language.

Homophobic or sexist language.

Just because PL refs ignore it, doesn’t mean we should

Sin bin is not a new category of offence. Its a new punishment for an offence that has existed since before I started refereeing, dissent. So you sin bin for anything that you just yellow card for dissent in the past. If it didn't warrant a yellow card dissent last year, before sin bin was introduced, it still doesn't.

The problem with a word charts (even an updated one) and making the association of words to card colours black and white, is it totally ignores context. Context is everything. In the context of the OP, when my integrity as a human being is attacked by calling me a cheat, I wont thing twice about sending the culprit off.

I've sent players off for threats. One player clearly said to another "I'll find you after and ****ing do you" - it wasn't the use of the f-word that got him sent off in that case. And another who lost his head when I went to sin bin him and started screaming and threatening in my face - for self preservation reasons I wasn't too focused on noting the exact words use, but I knew he was off the second I saw him react to me going for the initial caution!

Did you do anything further I.e misconduct or abandonment? My local FA have always told us that if you are or feel threatened to end the game, but I’m not sure how to I’d take that?

I got threatened a few times but never ever abandoned a game for that!!

Misconduct yes - a lot of the shouting came after I'd shown the red card, plus he had another go at me as we were walking back to the changing room, so I put in two extra reports.
Abandonment I decided against. Once he left, two of his teammates came up to apologise for him, I had NAR's so felt a little safer with them around and as there were only 2 mins left to play in added time and it was 4-1, I thought that abandoning was likely to cause more trouble than just playing out a notional minute or two.

Fair enough. I’m yet to deal with this type of situaition so I’m just trying to gauge in my head where the line is as such. I’m still in a scenario where I wouldn’t have NAR’s as well so I guess the risk is a bit higher

I would add as well that with that one player removed, the last thing I wanted to do was immediately follow him off the pitch!

I think the thing to do is as well as assessing how risky it is to continue, you also have to look at where the danger is. In my case, I was on a pitch with 20 other players (his was the second RC for his team!) who thought he'd gone too far, and the two players who probably wanted to hit me were both in the changing rooms. Playing another few minutes and going through the routine of handshakes was just keeping me away from the angry players for longer!

A poor one that would earn a red every day
Well, it would be hard to red card if a joker who is well behaved and positive says something a bit oblique like ”i wish i’d had a fiver on a 35th minute corner to away” with a wink. But if an angry player while whinging about a decision in a heated moment screams
”You’ve bet on away to win” it’s straightforward;)
